Nassim Taleb on Charlie Rose: "Massive Deflation Nightmare, Roubini Too Bullish"

Why? Its not like Taleb and Roubini haven't been all over TV and print for months saying the same things.

    market likes Obama's stimulus idea's

Didn't the market have a sharp rally after the Chinese announced their massive stimulus plan, only to fall apart later that day, and make new lows within a couple of weeks. Don't see where BO's plan is any different. If throwing reams of money at a financial collapse worked, Japan would have...

The Last Bubble - US Government Debt

Hendry remains wildly bullish on gov't debt. Best way to play rebound in yields is a 10 year put swaption struck at a yield 300 points higher than today's yield. This product can be bought for pennies on the dollar and will explode in price should yields bounce a couple of hundred points in...

The mother of all shorts is building: 30-year T-Bond

Not commenting on the direction of the t-bond beyond tomorrow, but it is set up for a nice "buy the rumor, sell the news" move. Look to fade any big move up in price following a bad print on the jobs data.

    Higher Education bubble

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/03/education/03college.html?hp Money quote: Over all, the report found, published college tuition and fees increased 439 percent from 1982 to 2007, adjusted for inflation, while median family income rose 147 percent. Student borrowing has more than doubled in...

The Credit Crisis Financial Stocks Short Journal

Great thread everybody. Has COF been mentioned at all? I shorted this near the close yesterday at $29.20. The reasons should be obvious.

Hedge Fund Manager Hugh Hendry Bets on Deflation With U.K. War Loans

Roubini takes a backseat to this guy. He's Jimmy Rogers before Rogers got senile. I urge everyone to do a google search of this guy and read and listen to everything he's done. Pay particular attention to his 2003 Barron's interview. Brilliant stuff.

    Highest dividend?

Harvest Energy Trust (HTE) yields about 30%. They'll likely have to cut their distribution by Q209. Then they'll "only' yield 15%.

Umm...Yeah...Citigroup to Cut Up to 50, 000 Jobs: CNBC

Stock's a buy at $9.40 for a nice short term pop. Wouldn't surprise me to see C hit $10 today.

when home price drops, inflation can not happen

Just a question ... If we're in the midst of a major deflation, how come the 10 year note still yields 3.70%? This is higher than the lows reached in March (around 3.20%) and higher than the lows reached in 2003 (around 3.10%). From a technical perspective, the fact that the 10 year yield...

WYNN to be added to S&P 500

Too funny. They can't even find 500 decent companies for the S&P anymore.

    Long dated options help

Thanks for the help. I actually had just bought some TBT this morning for a less speculative account. I want to do the way out-of-the-money puts in order to wildly profit from a "black swan" event. The only option quotes I can even get are for Dec 09. While they offer nice leverage (ZN Dec...

    Long dated options help

I'll start w/the goal: I'd like to profit if US long term treasury rates rise substantially sometime in the next 10 years. The plan: To buy long-dated (5 to 10 years), well out-of-the-money puts on Treasury futures. Current 10 year rates are about 3.7%. I'd like to buy a put that...

    Future for CME?

A rare good point made on CNBC ... Obama and his Chief of Staff are Chicago pols. Whatever comes out of DC over the next few years will likely be good for the CME.

Anybody else short US 30 Bond

Thanks. Once in a blue moon, Mr. Market throws you an 80 MPH fastball out over the plate. All you've got to do is swing.

Anybody else short US 30 Bond

I believe the move today and for the rest of the week has everything to do w/the upcoming employment report. Its almost surely going to be a horrible print. Folks are buying now in anticipation of this. I would fade any rally on the bad number Friday morning.

    Question for any ZN traders

I shorted Dec 08 ZN futures at 116-12 a few days back. I believe the 10 year was yielding 3.50% at the time. Since then, the yield has risen to 3.82, but the price of the futures contract has only fallen to 114-06. Shouldn't there have been more than a 2 point move for such a large move in...

Pimco's Bill Gross: New Stock Bull Market is Imminent

WTF! The market will not rally until bond yields come down??? - 30 years are yielding 4%, what more does he want We will see a healthy level of deflation w/oil coming down to $50/barrel - oil has gone from $145 to $65, predicting $50 now is really stepping out on a limb; the prices of...
