Schumer to SEC: Slow Down HFT, etc

I don't think there is a problem with HFT in general. I think there is a problem with the HFT firms that use quote stuffing to gain more advantage over the HFT competition by overloading the system with excessive quote messages, which in return threatens the whole market's structure as seen with...

Stops - do you want them?

Well, actually the market is random since it is a stochastic process. Stochastic process From Wikipedia, In probability theory, a stochastic process, or sometimes random process, is the counterpart to a deterministic process (or deterministic system). Instead of dealing with only one...

Stops - do you want them?

RTM without a strict risk plan is like uncontrolled averaging down or martingale type strategies, it works until it doesn't. These traders see their account vanish in one day, sometimes on just one single trade. Your experiences show again how important it is to always have a stop loss or a...

Stops - do you want them?

So you are indeed using a stop loss. But if I'm right you exit before it is triggered in most cases. Seeing how you use wide disaster stops and averaging down, I would guess you're trading an RTM strategy or something similar? that would explain why tight stops are actually couterproductive...

Stops - do you want them?

I think that stating that the flash crash was a conspiracy to have people use stop losses is a bit paranoid.

Drug Prohibition: On It's Last Legs?

You're lacking some serious drugs related history and social knowledge. Your thinking is wrong... 1)Drug law reforms actually reduce the numbers of hard drug users as seen in the Netherlands. http://drugwarfacts.org/cms/?q=node/67 2)Furthemore, despite a very liberal approach to...

Stops - do you want them?

Ok I see the folks that advocate not using stops are mostly saying they're using size management, bigger margins, basically less leverage. Here is why I think this is inferior (B1S2 that one is for you) to trading with stops : 1) Some of the guys that use little leverage or no leverage at all...

Stops - do you want them?

I think you should think twice before making such statements. Buying insurance causes you to lose money too. So.... do you have any numbers to back up that statement? otherwise it is just another opinion. Not a fact.

    ES Journal Archive (2009 - 2010)

No pb. Well I can't complain, the vola has been better than I expected this summer and CL is quite fun to trade. But overall, it just seems the liquidity is not there. Maybe that explains why you don't feel so much program trading moves like you used to. With GDP and Bernanke speaking...

    1. It's none of your business 2. Do you really think you're going to get "honest" answers here? 3. There's already a PnL thread for that. And last I checked NoDoji posts her CL blotter there so you get an idea of what an energy futures trader pnl looks like.

Trader Psychological Test: The Left Brain vs Right Brain

Interesting point but some aspects in trading- think crowd behaviors like the DOM & tape - are complex to code and the visual human pattern recognition system seems to be a very efficient tool to use the information.
