Intellectual property is dying. Free movies and TV shows.

Consider it as extention of DVD rental subscription. If a rental company can send you movies disks by post, why can't they stream movies over the Web? Apparently, it doesn't work like this (yet). A few services I checked out offer tens of thousands of (junk) movies inclusive but out of 10...

    Android vs Iphone

Same with Android phones. You have to buy applications from the official store and there is a small bit of software which comes with the device from the manufacturer. In order to install any software that wasn't "approved", a user has to "root" an Android phone, which is a procedure analogous...

    Forex automation & data availability

See if you could generate signals using kenetick data and simulate execution using IB data... If the results are still wildly different, try comparing 15-minute bars on the last year's data... Are open, close, high and low different on most bars?

    Android vs Iphone

As others have suggested it's all about the software available. A stock investor may decide which platform has better potential. A user just gets what does the job here and now, not "could do the job better if someone developed software for it".

    Fight of the Century: Revisted

Im' sure no one follows economic theory to the letter. Unlike physics, economics is not an experimental science because no one can conduct an experiment in controlled conditions to see what works and what doesn't. Some would go further and argue that for this reason economics is not a science...

    Android vs Iphone

That's the key point! So far iPhone has been dominating and it has so much more apps than Android. However, by the end of the year Android will probably beat iPhone by the number of units sold. The difference will be even greater in actual users because many iPhone users have upgraded more...

HSBC Plans to Cut 30,000 Jobs or 10% Jobs

I understand with major banks starting to report substantial profits (compared to the last few years) a "negative feedback loop" can pretty much be declared an urban myth for now.

who is liable for a loss due to a software problem ?

Very good point. Im fat, some software comes with extra exclusions. For exmple Java machines come with a disclaimer they should not be used in controlling nuclear reactors and doing so would break the license terms. Imagine auto-trading software where the license terms indirectly ban users...

HSBC Plans to Cut 30,000 Jobs or 10% Jobs

Assuming most people have seen porn at least once in their life, this comment basically says "anyone can loose job", which is true but generic enough to be devoid of any meaning.

My account value reaches $600,000 for the first time; launching incubator hedge fund

Depending on what instruments you are interested in MB Trading could be an option. Commissions are quite competitive. Very firendly to automation. Doesn't allow trading any non-US stocks, futures or options. I understand they still clear with Penson. So, any criticism of Penson clearing is...

who is liable for a loss due to a software problem ?

I agree with other posters. The only way you can nail down software or datafeed vendors is if you can prove a clear malice (or, perhaps, misselling) on their part. Otherwise, they are normally pretty much covered.

    More British Bank Job Cuts.

HSBC are firing 3% of the total workforce. It's just a way to give managers an opportunity to fire people they find inefficient (or don't like) but can't nail for bad performance. If the bank offers voluntary redundancy, there will be serious competition for being made redundant via this...

the last 30 years since REAGAN ERA.. OUR STANDARD OF LIVING WAS ON BORROWED FUNDS

Actually, if you look at a longer time series, you can see that Reagan was the first president since world war 2 under whom spending was larger than tax revenues in every year of administration. However, that size of the gap between spending and revenue under Obama is nothing short of exceptional.
