    Options assignment, time of day

My understanding is that underlying assignment happens 2 business days after an option is exercised in most cases (T+2). By way of example say an investor sells an AAPL put expiring on Jun18'21 and is assigned the associated shares on that day, at what time will the put writer be the legal...

    My approach to selling puts.

Here is my portfolio's performance for this month. I am posting today and not tomorrow as I have plans this weekend and worry that I will be taken by other things. I am not expecting anything crazy today considering that the pre-market futures are flatish, but one never knows.... a chart to...

How flexible is TT - can I write a market making algo for crypto.

Does your platform work with IBKR?

PM it is a difficult simulation to run as IB usually tightens margin requirements when VIX spikes, and this is not captured by the simulator. But I did well back when Trump was pulling his shenanigans and IB raised margins by 50% across the board.

Interesting private chat with qlai. After some thinking, I am still against rolling any puts for the following reasons: 1) wide bid-ask spreads, and steep slippage due to large positions I hold compared to the OCC average volumes. 2) liquidity taking when rolling and significant exchange fees...

There is probably a bit of both in all of us here... it's a question of how to channel it.

I was thinking about you when reading this earlier: "The bad news is that if it's not exercised, your fierceness will turn to bitterness, and you will become an intellectual playground bully: the grumpy sysadmin, the forum troll, the hater, the shooter down of new ideas." source...

    My approach to selling puts.

To bring this conversation back to earth, I will start posting monthly performance charts to reflect (to a certain extend) portfolio volatility/leverage, risk and return. I appreciate that value investing using options instead of the underlying is not common. I will keep running this live...

...and hence why I do not care about option mechanics :)

That's correct which is why I qualified selling puts earlier as a bet on stagnation. You would do that if expected returns from option yield exceed projected growth of the underlying in your view and at time of entry. Downside risk has to be managed in the same way in either case, regardless of...

In the world of anyone not wanting to disclose their positions to a third party vendor. Again, no need to be on the offensive. No one is insulting you.

IBKR's Risk Navigator with what-if testing does a similar job. I run it once a week.

basket of underlying returned just short of 10 per cent ytd, my book returned 23.8% not sure what xlf is? edit: I am a deep value investor with a fixed income background, I see options as a tool and nothing else. Their mechanics and idiosyncrasies do not interest me at all...as for leverage...

    My approach to selling puts.

I don't think rolling is a free lunch as perceived by some. Most often than not, timeframe (maturity) is traded off against strike. Kicking the can down the road at best. A false compromise in my view and a forced trade for many. As for the discussion about market timing (waiting for a pull...

Not sure what Quad is ? A prop shop? Have you heard of people there running long-short books with puts instead of equity? Regional deposit-taking banks are definitely interesting.

I am concerned by the speed of the drop. A 20% move in a week will hurt me. If the drop takes a month, I can manage it. Low vix in the high teens equally hurts me. Closer to 30 suits me better.

How does rolling works with illiquid options with wide bid-ask? Scaling (like leverage) is a prooblem and an opportunity. It keeps deep pockets who can hire people like me away.

Of course there are better ways, but this one suits my style and personality. I opened my post by saying that. To me this is more important than optimisation. Now please don't confuse with charlatans here selling courses, methods, raising funds, YouTube channels or advertising brokerage...

I get it, you are not a fan. Not here to argue. After all, those opportunities only appeared because others thought differently...and it's a zero sum game this.
