What I learnt in a year of trading stocks

I am starting this thread with the objective of sharing the hard learnt lessons of one year in the trading business and see if other trader followed a similar path or what they did differently. 1) I now trade small until my trading become consistently profitable (this may last for years...

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

Hmmm I suspect that the Y axis may be scaled in logarithmic scale but I am still wondering what is measured. Well, I am curious and I will eventually figure it out...

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

Is it the frequency of reversals within each hour in a trading day: Time = Money...?

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

Hi Redneck I have been wondering what happened to NY... now I know! I have learnt a lot from this thread and every time I go back and browse through it I understand something I did not understand the previous time and for me this is a clear sign that i am progressing! well, fortunately you have...

Can Short Term Trading Be More Profitable Than Long Term

Thanks for the good advice, I fully agree with you as I would never even think to get standard education on Trading (i.e. books, web sites, systems, courses, etc.) as it is pretty clear to me that no successful trader would ever spread around his knowledge even for a price... I got most of my...

Can Short Term Trading Be More Profitable Than Long Term

Well, the Roulette being random does not allow any winner but the house in the long term. Trading is somehow different since it is not random as price moves between levels for very good reasons. Understanding these reasons together with tight control over looser trades gives all the edge that is...

Can Short Term Trading Be More Profitable Than Long Term

Not sure, commission with a decent broker is around 2USD per 100 Stocks trade (buy+sell) which with a stock valued 50USD is equivalent to 2 ticks, I normally make at least 10 to 30 ticks in a winning trade so the 2 ticks that I loose for commissions are really not much, same for a loosing trade...

Can Short Term Trading Be More Profitable Than Long Term

Hi galvinlee888, to be honest I am still working on it, I am relatively new to trading (only a year). I am generally profitable wit a good win rate (over 70%) and average profit of 0.5 to 1 point a day whenever I follow my rules and I am fully focused on trading. However, every now and then...

Can Short Term Trading Be More Profitable Than Long Term

I believe that commissions and slippage are of no consequence as if you understand how the market operate, have the will and commitment to work out your trading plan (being intraday or swing) and have the discipline to apply it, you will finally make money. Problem is that you must understand...

    Real Reasons Behind Market Patterns

Hi OW, the news are not important only when they are released as they may have an impact on price so we need to be prepared to notice anything out of the ordinary at those particular times...

    The M.I.N.D Game

Looking at T&S (in real time it is possible I see something that is not there) I have noticed something that seems to be significant at certain times (I think when the General are busy): sometimes most of the contract changes hands (when price move) in one direction while on the other direction...

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

The funny thing is that it seems that most of the focus by many here is on the second part of the OP question while the first part is forgotten...

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

Hi Note, honestly after the first moment of elation I felt like a total idiot, first because I have been such since I started trading (and not just because of the obvious), second because a few months ago I considered the Obvious and then I discarded it and I returned in the confortable idiot...

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

Hi note, while I am pretty sure I got the Obvious as it is so Obvious that it cannot be anything else, I am still figuring out how the Obvious works. The best answer to your questions is implicit in this thread which I consider pure gold! my non-expert answer to your questions would be: 1)...

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

P.S. I am proud to say that in the year since I started trading (and, by the way, mostly loosing money, as I often thought i knew something) I have never read a trading book. Now, maybe I will read few chapters here and there to better know how the ones I want to take money from think...;)

Why Is The Obvious Not So Obvious?

I have seen the light! after almost one year with good gains followed by losses twice as big, I have finally figured out the Obvious not so obvious! Now I will need to spend some time figuring out my way of using the obvious to trade profitably with consistency. so here it goes my big, big...
