Groupon Is a Straight-Up Ponzi Scheme

You guys either do not know what a Ponzi scheme is or simply do not understand the coupon business model. Groupon, as with most of these types of companies actually do have a product or service they are selling. They are exchanging a tangible something (product or service that people want)...

    Noam Chomsky: Free Market Fantasies

I agree, he should not stray from his specialty. Except that his specialty is linguistics, not politics. In economics and politics he is a complete dolt and an icon of the militant left. Chomsky has not met a commie fascist he dislikes or a free marketer that he likes. Do not get confused by...

    Getting a McJob ain't easy

I understand where you are coming from, but we cannot expect a business to pay someone what they need to live on. 'Hello McDs, I have 5 kids, a mortgage and wife to support, so please pay me $80K per year instead of minimum wage' Simply put, wages from certain jobs cannot by themselves...

    Getting a McJob ain't easy

+1 Good post. Likewise, I had several restaurant jobs washing dishes, cleaning tables, waiting tables when I was young. Some hard labour jobs too. Builds character and makes one appreciate the value of money; how easy is it to spend it and how difficult it is to earn it. Then when you...

    Getting a McJob ain't easy

It is not illegal for a child to work. Although there are different rules in terms of wages, hours and working conditions. It would be nice if folks took at least 10 seconds to do some research and DD before posting, but I suppose that is too much to ask.

    Getting a McJob ain't easy

You are exactly the problem. No one forces anyone to eat there and eating at McDs will not in itself make anyone fat. As long as you eat the fast food part of the menu in moderation. Plus they now have lots of healthy choices. McDs culture making everyone fat, boo hoo. Grow a spine...

    Getting a McJob ain't easy

I worked at McD's in 1985. I think at that point I was getting $2 and something per hour. I consider it a good experience. Managers were suportive but expected us to work hard. Plus half price food was great for a 12 year old kid :) Good for McD's

    Going fulltime dilemma

All good advice so far. I'd like to comment on one thing though. I don't understand how so many folks can fathom of going full time with such a small balance. There was an entire thread I read that had most people agree that $50,000 was enough. Here you are saying that $200,000 is...

Canadian brokerage that supports trading API and RRSP?

Good question. I am not aware of any. Questrade doesn't seem to have an API but they don't charge on currency exchange within an RRSP. For this reason I'm thinking of opening an account with them. Plus $5 per trade is fairly good. I'm currently with Scotia itrade. The major banks don't...

Where do YOU see Bank of America go from here?

I have to respectfully disagree with most of the posters on this thread. Short term we may see ups and downs, but 2-5 years from now this stock should be up significantly. Even with the writedowns, they are still making money. Bad loans will slowly but surely make its way off the books...

It sucks being long CCJ today

It is a buying opportunity for all quality uranium stocks. Demand will continue to rise, despite this weekend's unfortunate events. BP recovered nicely after a disaster, so did XOM long ago, and those were company specific events. This is two reactors among hundreds, with many more to go...

    Fill Order

Just wanted to update that I did indeed get the other 3500 shares filled. They appeared a while later. Might have been some lag at my broker. In any case, first come first served still applies I suppose.

    Fill Order

Hi All, I opened a 20,000 share limit order position today which got part filled at 16,500 shares in the morning. During the course of the day, the price went up again and subsequently returned to my limit order price, but for some reason, I was not filled the other 3500 shares. I was...
