    Significance of "preopen"?

neh...just everyone getting their stuff in and a lot of "bluff" orders on the screen. If you want the true opening indication, call down to the floor...the screen is just fluff for the most part, thats why you'll see a "quoted" bid suddenly pop or drop 2-3 cents in a second as we open up.

im new to ag futures..whats good?

Actually I find ags to be MUCH simpler and by far easier to trade than the ym/es/*insert index future here*. Why?? because ags, despite the fact that they do tend to make very big, sometimes very volatile moves, especially during the growing season...are VERY methodical. You don't see a lot...

im new to ag futures..whats good?

I do not know if IB has this symbol...I clear through RCG and Advantage. Try "MWE" as the root symbol.

HAHAHA!!! N/X beans will tear his head off if he's new to the ags!

im new to ag futures..whats good?

86 ticks is MUCH too wide in corn or oats if you are trading with a good strategy. I like to keep my risk at between 5-10 cents (20-40 ticks) depending on my target in those markets. For a new guy...I'd say 10 cents should be a good risk for you to take on any given trade in corn...if you...

im new to ag futures..whats good?

corn or oats or live cattle...although cattle tend to (historically) get very range bound...so if you want something that moves over time (week to a month) but has *relatively* low daily ranges...look at corn or oats. Best of all though, look at grain spreads...very slow moving, very...

    day trade futeres?

nope...there are none. Zero, zilch, nada....sorry man...but its a good idea, maybe you should go start one! :D :D

why this board isn't healthy if you trade for a living

+1 the trading itself does become boring...especially when you figure out a method that works....after a while the methodical trading gets old....the "excitement" comes from continually learning and adapting and continually evolving with the new "wrinkles" in the one (or more...depending on...

Would you do it all over again?

you don't find us...we find you..LOL no, in all seriousness, its not a public blog, just a "hang-out" spot for me and a few trader buddies to go and shoot the shit.

Would you do it all over again?

yikes man...I hope that isn't the case. You are young though, as am I, so there is plenty of time to do whatever else you want to try. I have found that its not trading that makes you more withdrawn from society, but simply being self employed and never interacting with people. For...

    Class III Milk

Youngtrader, I trade it quite often, actually used to do some hedging work for a dairy here in Texas before the CWT bought them out. Milk options used to be the place to be in the Class III market, not so much anymore imo...as there is decent volume (for this mkt anyway) on the screen these...

    A New Futures Broker

go with either Advantage or directly through RCG using Ninja on a TT feed. I was partial to Zen-Fire as well until about February, when I started noticing faster fills on limit orders via my TT vs Zen-fire. (was running X-trader side by side Ninja). Both brokers offer roughly 50% initial...

    Grain trading newsletter

Doane's. More geared as a hedging newsletter for farmers, but very good information nonetheless....and can't go wrong for $150 per year. Other than that I just read all the DTN stuff that I get over ProphetX, and also have a few guys in key areas of the country I talk to. (Iowa, Indiana...

    grain spreaders

I'd agree with youngtrader...gotta keep buying the old crop corn. I've been liking these spring wheat bullspreads, but feel that now the time has come to exit all bullspreads in the MGE and reverse those into some nice seasonal bear spreads here for at least the next month as we finally get...

    grain spreaders

HAHA!!....I guess our version of that trade would be N/X beans each year?? LOL!! And yes, as Eric said, if you guys want to find a good group of futures traders, come on over to the group. We have a blog and are all on messenger. Small group (8 right now), and would like to keep it that...

    KC Wheat at IB?

I don't use IB, but the electronic KC wheat trades on eCBOT, just like MGE wheat does, so any feed with Globex/eCBOT should have it. Whether or not you get the pit data is another question. I know at one of the brokers I use, I just had to call them to get the data enabled for my charts/order...

    Cotton

not trading the outright cotton, but did sell the N/Z spread today off the open when it was trading up around -3.10 Crashed nicely going into the close. Looking for some continuation back into -4.50, and then into -5.5 to -6.00

    SFD linked to Swine Flu

Well said...for those of you who want ACTUAL information, rather than just "factory hog farms are the devil and will wipe us out" Bull Sh** then check out Friday's Daily Livestock Report. You idiots trying to run down the good name of US agriculture ought to be ashamed of yourselves...but this...

Two Men Enter... One Man Leaves!

This thread is too hilarious not to chime in. I'm just a lowly daytrader over in the ag and SP futures, so what do I know? So I'll take a page from the "mass media CYA model" and say this: I KNOW the market will go down, unless we rally, which is unexpected, but if it happens don't say I...
