How to Disable 2FA for TWS?

If you have a phone with a fingerprint reader, the IB 2FA becomes almost effortless when you install the IB app on your phone.

How can I Reset TWS Configuration to Default?

I have not tried this, but it seems like it should work: 1. Run TWS 2. File-->Save Settings As 3. Note the folder that it wants to save the settings to 4. Exit TWS 5. Go to the settings folder 6. Make a backup of this folder somewhere else on your machine 6. Delete all tws*.xml files (like...

    Gold is such a pathetic hedge(or a non-hedge even)

There's a history of central bankers not being good traders. Central bankers will look upon their recent sales as stupid years later.

    Gold is such a pathetic hedge(or a non-hedge even)

When central banks sell, it is time to buy gold. They'll buy it back from you at the top.

    Gold is such a pathetic hedge(or a non-hedge even)

Instead of trading gold, why not just buy some and hold it. In 20 years time, your dollars are almost guaranteed to lose 90% of their purchasing power. Do you think gold will lose 90% of its purchasing power?

How much do you pay your CPA?

I don't agree with your analogy either. Taxes are just math and anybody can do math and they aren't inside your own body.

How much do you pay your CPA?

Alternate viewpoint: it's not like being a CPA makes you a genius incapable of making mistakes. I'd rather understand and complete my own taxes rather than signing off on someone else's work who doesn't have the same incentives as myself.

    Question about Taxes and MTM

As I said in my original post, you can transfer rather than sell so there is no tax event. I doubt the IRS will look favorably on your current setup but I'm not a tax expert.

    Question about Taxes and MTM

My advice to you is to open a new account just for investments and transfer that 10k share position into the investment account. Or sell it from the trading account and buy it in the investment account. That way you keep your trading activity and investment activity in separate accounts. Even...

Should I use MOC or LOC?

I've seen plenty of examples of closing prices where it is absurdly off the action just one minute before. If you are really interested, run through some historical data to find some examples. I don't understand why you would ever put in a MOC order when you could put in a LOC order with a price...

Should I use MOC or LOC?

With some of the closing prices I've seen over the years, you are rolling the dice with MOC orders. LOC for me.

Do wash sales only matter if you are net negative on the year?

You get to take the combined capital loss on the second loser because you didn't trade it for 30 days after the last sale. So you take the capital loss in that Dec tax year. Of course, another problem is the $3k limit per year on capital losses so it could take awhile to realize the entire loss.

Any commission free broker api for automatic trading?

Robinhood may have an unofficial API: https://github.com/sanko/Robinhood Of course, they might shut it down at any moment (or might have already).

Do wash sales only matter if you are net negative on the year?

Wash sale losses are never permanent since they are carried with the cost basis of an active position. Assuming at some point in the future you exit that position, the wash sale loss will be recognized. The only time a wash sale loss can be permanent is when you have wash sale losses across a...

is there a difference between tiered and fixed commission structure?

I had to write a program to analyze my orders to see which would be better. And it turned out tiered was much better for my style of trading. You'll just have to go through a few examples of your "normal" type of orders and do the calculations.

    Avoiding Wash Sales

I don't think your example is correct. Assuming you are flat AMZN options at the end of the year and you did not trade AMZN options for many months, then your taxes will show a $20,000 loss. Again the assumption is that when you are not trading these securities, then you have no position (are...
