No idea, but why do you think it's performance related? JWH's flagship fund is up 110% net of fees 2005 through 2011.

Good catch. Pretty embarrassing to see another journalist confuse assets under management with investment performance.

Why don't you go back to your posts on this message board from 2005 and 2006? You claimed the big trendfollowers were bound to deliver sub-standard performance and are "about to go away as they have no edge". Go back to 2005 and find a list of the top 10 trend CTAs at that point in time. That...

Roubini Says Rogers’s Forecast of $2,000 Gold ‘Utter Nonsense’

Yes, same guy. Few people understand and play bubbles better than the old man himself.

Can't help but notice the stubbornness in bonds. Long Gilts (bond) making new 30 day highs. Deutsches Reich bunds squeezed me out brutally last week. The last bond short positions I have on are the 30y US Ultras and they're close to hitting my stops as well. The stock markets may see a...

Consider using a volatility based stop instead of a fixed % stop. A simple N day ATR (Average True Range) multiplied by a fixed factor will give your positions some leeway in more volatile markets while keeping stops tight when in a tighter range.

Aha, so directionless or market neutral strategies can extra alpha out of a perfectly efficient and random market. But directional strategies (such as momentum/trendfollowing strategies) can not? That's is so painfully contradictory, it's actually embarrassing and painful.

Without being aware of it, Marketsurfer is a proponent of the Efficient Market Hypothesis. In his limited mind, market returns can and should be modeled with random coin flips. Heck if this was the 60s he'd be right in line for the Nobel Prize!

That's the wrong way to approach the situation. For a moment, forget about making your "money back". Concentrate just on the discipline to execute your system in order to limit a further loss of capital. The more you forget about the former and instead focus on the latter the sooner you'll be...

The US government's administrator for the seized corporations will likely implement a tedious and highly annoying redemption procedure for the player accounts. Amongst other things they'll probably ask for the standard notarized passport copies, notarized copies of utility bills, personal...

Finally some good news. Utah Considers Return to Gold, Silver Coins

That is an absurd statement. A Dollar put in the bank compounding interest at 90 day T-Bill rates, adjusted for CPI still has about the same purchasing power. I used data from 1931 - 2009:

You admit to having no experience with trend following funds. You were intentionally misleading when you said you "studied all available publications" pertaining to trend funds as that was exposed as a blatant lie. The concept of margin to equity ratios as a measure of CTA trading risk is...

Then you're the one for not doing your home work. You're supposed to do your due diligence in your target fund and understand the level of leverage the fund typically carries. There are trend funds (and other CTAs) that employ different levels of leverage to suit different investor risk...

Drawdowns are meaningless in assessing the viability of a strategy unless you take into account the amount of leverage employed. You didn't do your homework here but you keep saying how well read and researched you are on the subject. You're clearly not. As an exercise, why don't you take...

Rich Americans buying Euro soccer teams.

It's for those Americans who need something to brag with at the summer-time St. Tropez cocktail parties. Nobody in Europe knows the Boston Red Sox but you get ooohhhs and ahhhs from Cristal-sipping aristocrat wifes when you mention you own Manchester United or Real Madrid.

    Oh snap! Poker world rocked!

It's called in rem jurisdiction. Welcome to the US legal system. A judge likely signed off on a court order that the domain names themselves - physical objects - are violating certain laws and therefore can be seized regardless of a successful conviction of the personal defendants in the case.

The only reason for a large drawdown you can come up with is a series of bad entries? That speaks volumes about the depth - or the lack thereof - of your alleged research and experience in the field. The probability of a severe drawdown to occur - entirely independent of strategy - is...

So let me get this straight: "Massive drawdowns" of a trend fund directly imply the use of wide stops? Clueless, just as I said. I don't understand why you're passionately discussing a topic that you clearly know very little about and have very little hands-on experience with. Why not...
