Maine Wants The Enron Loophole Closed

I've never traded energy in a personal account, only institutional/commercial so tough to say but if I were you I would primarily use TA to take positions in short dated futures. Having said that, NYMEX and ICE are pretty transparent, it's when you get into basis swaps, exotic options, etc...

Maine Wants The Enron Loophole Closed

If "speculators" push crude oil from $100 to $50 in the coming year, would speculators be blamed for this as well? Sure, speculators have added to higher energy prices but it can't be ignored that most commodities have moved significantly higher over the past few years, it's not just...

Maine Wants The Enron Loophole Closed

You hit the nail on the head. If the US tries to increase regulation, the liquidity will simply shift to London, Singapore, Calgary, etc. There is plenty of liquidity in look-a-likes (essentially identical to NYMEX contracts except they're bilateral and cash settled) in the OTC market, enough...

    cme crude options

If I were looking for '10 CL options right now I would only go OTC. The b/a in the pit will be ridiculous and the liquidity on globex cl options isn't very deep beyond the prompt 12 months, although it's slowly starting to improve. Your best bet is probably trying to find a shop that will make...

Goldman Says `Take Profits' After Crude Hit Record

The pit guys have become dinosaurs, take a look at how much volume is done on Globex these days vs. the pit. They're even starting to lose the volume in short dated options to the screen. As soon as you can trade outright option spreads on the screen the floor is done.

Goldman Says `Take Profits' After Crude Hit Record

GS has plenty of insight into oil but you'll never see it released to clients as the rubbish research they publish comes from their fixed income and equity groups, not J Aron. Same goes for the 99% of all sell-side research.

    cme crude options

Is Optionable really still in business? I can't imagine any reputable shop doing business with them these days between Globex and all of the OTC brokers listing options on Trayport.

    Houston Office Space

Anyone interested in sharing office space in Houston? My current lease is expiring soon, looking at several places in Greenway, Galleria, and Montrose. Potential spaces would each have several offices that average 175-200 sq ft. Cost would probably be in the $350/month range including...

Is the market pricing of oil a scam?

Your argument is completely false. Traditional energies aren't yet expensive enough for the "alternatives" to become true economic substitutes when you exclude the tax incentives/subsidies. Oh, and those incentives/subsidies are being instituted by the govt, although not because it's...

Is the market pricing of oil a scam?

What's your point? Do you the regulators to change the rules so that NYMEX and ICE products can only be traded by US based traders and entities? Crude and refined products are global markets. If the trades aren't executed by US based traders on the NYMEX, ICE or in the "US" OTC market, the...

First off, don't simply apply to the formal programs, then you're playing the 1/1000 numbers game when you could be playing 1/50. Find the names of dept/desk heads and contact them directly, bypassing the gatekeepers in HR. You might have to write/call 100 of them several times but it will...

    PEAK OIL is PAST

As far as the peak oil argument, it's not even worth arguing, it's been beat to death and very few are interested/willing to engage in a politically unbiased, fact based discussion on the subject, not to mention it's damn near impossible to determine what statistics are in fact true due to the...

Iran sells oil in yen for Japan

Clearly you don't understand the oil markets. The volume of oil imported from Iraq into the US is a drop in the bucket compared to Canada, Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Venezuela, in that order.
