Russia says better to save Greece from a default

Nice to have the Russians on board. Obviously they're aware that they have vested interest. They're not in a position to help out with cash but their energy and materials play big in Euro economy. IMF $440 billion is scary. If we start cascading we'll need 10 times that.

    Putin a dictator?

Putin 100% KGB. For sure he has no use for freedom or human decency. Russia is a thugocracy; it's run by criminals.

So, Why Should The Palestinians Get A State?

Following the Holocaust a guilt-ridden world decided to ease its conscience by providing the Jews with a place to call their own. Palestine, formerly Israel, and a British protectorate already largely populated by Jews, seemed the only credible setting so in '47 the United Nations Partition...

So, Why Should The Palestinians Get A State?

No, JJ, I'm not Jewish - but a wannabe Jew maybe. I was putting you on because your posts seem a little too tough. I'm sympathetic to both Palestinians and Israelis because they seem to be trapped in a hopeless situation. We all know why, following the Holocaust, the Jews had to have some...

    Scientists: Time Travel Impossible

Time travel is impossible because time is impossible. There is no time; there is only change. Change can't be reversed on anything but a very small scale. Reversing change on a limited scale won't transport you to a past or future reality. The past does not exist, the future does not...

Are US mutual fund managers idiots?

The more abstruse the model the more it's merely self-referencing abstraction that doesn't supervene on reality. Fund managers are highly intelligent but deluded.

Can the average blue-collar person w/ high school education get rich thru Trading?

By the time you develop a 'gut feel' for the market you'll have blown out your account several times over. I'd say the odds against you are staggering. After you've studied technical analysis for a year or two and tested it against the market on paper the odds against you might drop to merely...

    Shorting into FED

Nicely played. I did OK with my DOG (short DOW) and actually took most of my position after the announcement on a market order. The bid-ask gaps were scary and it was jumping around like a Mexican bean but I got a decent fill anyway. Anybody who says he KNEW there would be a sell-off is full...

    Shorting into FED

Sounds good. I figgers 500 Dow points one way or t'other coming out of this formation over the next few days. Just an uneducated guess, of course, but that's my personal guideline. GL

    Shorting into FED

I'm suppose I'm a near-expert at TA. I read the charts right about 49.99% of the time. Can't see any convincing clues in the charts of the Dow or in SPY, DOG, TZA, etc. except maybe a little, tiny hint that short is better than long. Bought an odd lot of TZA on margin. Used to be a...

    How much is 'Enough' ?

    1) Universal military service for everybody in every democracy (6 or 12 months, no exceptions). 2) Move the United Nations to Bangladesh. Set up a new League of Democratic Nations in the old UN site (with strict requirements for admission). 3) Jail terms for politicians who intentfully...

    How much is 'Enough' ?

Also, those countries don't have the demographic problems of the US. Virtually everybody in Northern Europe is educable and capable of holding down meaningful jobs. In the US there are subcultures of ignorance and lawlessness that will present America with enormous difficulties going forward...

    How much is 'Enough' ?

There are very few poor people in any of the countries you cited. There`s much more misery in America. BTW Stefan Persson, who resides in Sweden, is worth $24.5 billion. Now why on Earth would anybody need more money than that.

    How much is 'Enough' ?

Police. Courts. Military. The police protect the rich from the poor. The courts are there to send the poor to jail. The military (manned by poor people) is there to maintain the nation that belongs to the rich. But yes, there are too many poor and the poor are a drag on the economy...

GE's success at avoiding taxes is nothing short of extraordinary

All true.. There`s far too much international financial entanglement. The corporations have done a snow job on the people in selling this idea that globalism is unavoidable and necessary. It isn`t. While the US still has the muscle to assert its will the American people had better regain...

What would you choose...money or happiness?

Just picking up the thread at the end here - maybe somebody's already made the point. If you were happy no matter what you'd have no motivation to do anything and would be dead within a couple of weeks of starvation. I'd take the money.
