Developing a Trading System Step by Step

Murray, I want to do something like this for futures contracts at the opens of various world markets - I want to build a rolling measure of the "reactiveness" and breakout potential for futures products only during the period of market opens (for the ES, NQ, YM, ER2, ZB, TY, EC, DAX, N225...

    strategy to trade future.

Who ever sent that should be "shorted" with a 1500 lot! That is BS if someone here sent that to you!

Mechanical systems a route to the poor house.

Think about all the people that suddenly broke the 4 minute mile right after Roger Bannister did it. _____________________________________________________________________ Bannister stuns world with 4-minute mile By BRUCE LOWITT © St. Petersburg Times, published December 17, 1999...

Mechanical systems a route to the poor house.

Pabst - the RT posting you have here, is exactly why I have said to find ways to use the markets own nature against itself. Find something the market does everyday (goes up and down, trends, or chops) and take advantage of it. There has never been a time in the last 100 years that I can find...

Mechanical systems a route to the poor house.

"When I say purely mechanical, what I mean is that price action is processed by a numerical algorithm to produce buy and sell orders." ______________________________________________________________________ - the above statement is something I have never done, as I do not use any...

Mechanical systems a route to the poor house.

Today for instance, at 1267.50 (ES daily 200 SMA price level) I had a zone in which to run one of my ES mechanical trade systems. I had a mechanical trade in place that was unbiased for 2 points above and below the 1267.50 level to form a 4 point zone. In the zone, mechanical entries and...

Mechanical systems a route to the poor house.

I think mechanical systems (no chart indicators needed) are the only way to go for the ES, but you have to find a way to have what you are doing "mechanically" take advantage of something the instrument does almost everyday. In other words, mechanically trap the instrument within its own...

What software do I need to get started?

Keep everything simple in the beginning as you learn what type of trading will work best with your personality and risk tolerance. Esignal is good for charting and fairly easy to use, and I like NinjaTrader for a futures trading platform.

Developing a Trading System Step by Step

Murray, I have been following the ORB thread with interest, because I have a market opening bracket trade strategy that I trade with various futures products. Could a person build up a ten day rolling average ORB measurement "indicator" for different products with Traders Studio. If I...

    support/resistance in YM

The placement of the stops are important, so all I will say is that you have to do a good deal of backtesting to find out the exact area that will work best for the spacing that is used. I do not have my stops where you mention. I think there is enough information out for someone to run...

    support/resistance in YM

This is not a HFT operation - the examples shown were different ways to be scaled into and out of a position by trending price movement. Every "limit" cover shown would be at a profit - none would be a churning or a breakeven cover.

    support/resistance in YM

Yes you are correct - you have scaled in "stop-limit" entries with "limit" scale out covers from the examples.
