I agree 100% with you on this. I switched from Solaris x86 to Linux last year. Running Linux on x86 PCs and servers is where its strong.

Linux is a good OS. However IMHO it still needs some years to grow up and question remains if it ever can be superior to a Solaris running on SUN HW, IRIX running on SGI HW, or AIX running on IBM HW. Linux is successful, because it has something for everyone: Its a cheap toy for hackers...

Maybe, but Linux doesn't run on the SGI Origin 3900. If you want Linux you have to choose the SGI Altix 3000 server. Linux is still not in the same league as the professional Unixes.

Had this same problem in the summer (re-login wasn't a problem though) for some weeks. I upgraded SUN Java JRE to 1.4.0_02 (and maybe TWS too) and the problem disappeared. I even forgot that I ever had this problem until your post.
