    Simple trading strategies - impossible?

If it's going up, buy it. If it's going down, sell it. Cut your losers and let your winners run. If you have the mental toughness to actually do this and stick with it through the many whipsaws and profit givebacks, you will be profitable long run.

    Series 7 Securities License

Rule of thumb is you should be scoring 90s on the prep tests if you want to pass. Worked for me on the 7,55,24,4,63 and 65. If you studied for 2 months and were still scoring 70 handles, maybe this isn't for you.

The Bottom Is In....Thats All I See & Hear

I couldn't disagree more. All I'm hearing is "Just a rally in a bear market". Especially here on this thread...hmmm.

Yep, and guess what...it's still broken. Can't believe a front and center issue such as this hasn't gotten more attention from the company.

    Indexes at MA Resistance

That of course is always true. But as an inflection point, the direction it ends up going (unlikely to be sideways for very long), should have some legs.

    Indexes at MA Resistance

Today's rally has taken SPY to its declining 50 DMA and QQQQ to its declining 200 DMA. Interestingly IWM is above both, although both MAs are declining. This should mark an important inflection point, and once resolved (which probably will be marked by fits and starts) should determine the...

    Prints not showing up

Dark pools must print to the tape like everyone else. Likely your order was filled in odd lots, which do not go to the tape.

Is there a bear market ETF reversely tracking the performance of crude oil futures?

Careful with DUG, it isn't short crude oil per se. It is short the Dow Jones U.S. Oil & Gas index, which is comprised of stocks in the oil and gas industry. It often doesn't have an inverse relationship to oil. If your goal is to be short oil, dto is better.

    Level2, Time and Sales

The key to your success lies in your willingness to find the trading style that best suits you. There are many paths to consistent profitability, but it would be foolish for me to call any one the "best". I would advise against spending lots of money on seminars, systems, teachers, etc. PM me...

betting on horse races vs. trading

In addition to understanding probability, professional gamblers have the necessary mindset for trading. If you understand that the trade is nothing more than a possibility, there is no reason to continue to hold a loser after being proven wrong. Master this one thing and you are halfway there.

    Level2, Time and Sales

Agree. Back when the Specialist was relevant, one could read the tape on NYSE stocks and take advantage when he would spread and print. No more, the game has changed.

betting on horse races vs. trading

I didn't have much success trading until I approached it as if it were gambling. As another poster said, it is all probabilities, nothing more. Like Mark Douglas says, all it takes is one trader out there that disagrees with you and is willing to act on it to make you wrong. Given that truth...

SEC Extends Order Limiting Naked Short Selling Through August 12

I've signed the following petition: "The Security Traders Association, of which I am a member, enjoys a practitioner's viewpoint with broad grassroots support in the U.S. equity markets. As market professionals with a keen awareness of market structure, we are concerned with any...

Tired of Cutting My Losses Short

In my trading, I've found that stops should be either very tight or very loose. The middling ones create psychological issues with whipsaws. Either get out very early when wrong, or have the nads to hold through larger losses. I prefer the former, but to each his own.
