Any Serious Traders Living in Tokyo?

I'm not a huge roppongi fan either, but I've never minded the skirts!

Tiger O - you still live in Tokyo? I haven't been to Lex yet....

    Can Trading Edges be Quantified?

Ronb, I totally agree with you. Until recently, I've been a purely discresionary trader, so I have developed some sense of what you are talking about. I especially agree with your thoughts about position sizing. At the moment, I'm WAY under trading in terms of size (NO MARGIN!) until I can...

    Can Trading Edges be Quantified?

I decided that I should try to answer my own question! I tried writing some simple entry criteria to simulate some candlestick patterns. The first thing I discovered is that it's not as easy as it looks. Some of the descriptions are a bit vague (the 1st bar must be long) and being new at this...

    Place Looks Great

This is a bit off topic, but recently I've been wondering how many of the 10,000+ people who are allegedly registered to this site still trade? I mean, sure there are probably lots of lurkers, and people who just don't bother posting often, but I have yet to see anything close to 1000 different...

    Can Trading Edges be Quantified?

I'm still sitting on the fence with regard to the automation vs discression trading, but recently I've been trying my hand at automation. It's been going "OK," but I can't say as I've given it 100% fair shake yet, since several times I've over-ridden my own systems! So here's my...

    TradeStation 6 Order Entry

I just wrote to Easy Language and explained that my stop losses weren't getting hit at the appropriate time. Sure enough, no sooner had I sent the mail, and three of my stop losses got hit within a 2 minute time frame. All of them were sent at the "right" time. Hmmmm?

Scalping Stocks For .10-.25 100-200 Times Daily

Stockdance, I make it a point to keep any post I make as positive as I possibly can. With that in mind, I'll limit my post to simply saying that: 1. It's great that you are asking questions. Without asking, you won't grow. 2. Having said that, this is not the best forum to learn a...

    TradeStation 6 Order Entry

I'm using the auto entry/exit feature on TS6 also and have experienced similar problems getting my stop loss executed. The problem (I think!) is that the software is chart based, so it only references the price in the time frame described by the chart. For example, if I'm using hourly charts...

    Msft

I don't day trade much, but if I had to guess, I'd say that people probably don't trade msft much because it's a thick stock. Presumably it would be easier to trade a thin stock with greater short term volitility.

    Newish Trader Advice

You have the right attitute - you want to do it for yourself. I don't think the gap between intent and reality is really that wide. Do tons of research on your own (read books) and develop your own ideas. Your ideas don't have to be original or great - you simply have to internalize them. If...

    Satelitte? Dream or Reality?

I just did some poking around on the net. It doen't seem like there is much point - the size of the dish makes the excercise moot. I was thinking that there might be a global modem service (for laptops) available - similar to phones that you can use world wide. Oh well, maybe in the future....

    Satelitte? Dream or Reality?

Well, I carry many of my positions for 3 - 5 days, so a 5 second delay isn't going to hurt that type of trading too much. From the comments so far, it sounds as though it'll be financially viable and globally accessable sometime in the near future. Does anyone know what the current costs are like?

    Satelitte? Dream or Reality?

They say that one of the best things about being a trader is that you can do it (trading, I mean) any time, any place in the world. I don't know about you guys, but I have to work most of the time, and my holidays are scheduled around the stock market. So my question is: If I used a satelitte...

    NYSE opening strategies

After several years of consistent effort I've managed to attain some semi-profitability as a swing trader. Unfortunately, I have yet to achieve any sort of consistency when scalping the DOW opening, despite a reasonable understanding of how the specialist system works. Does anyone have any...

    Mecanicaly Trading the QQQ's

Recently I've seen 'standard deviation' used in several publications and on my TS software. Could someone explain what it means, how it is calculated, and how it relates to the mechanical QQQ system previously mentioned? Thanks.

    Mechanical approach?

I, too, have begun working with automated trading. Using Trade Station I can back test my stategies to get an idea of how they might perform under similar market conditions. But what is forward testing? Does it refer to basically paper trading your system for a while?
