Bulletin from IB: charge of 2000 USD for "intensive messaging". Fraud?

Quote from Merkur: If IB is charged a totally of 2000 USD per product and per day, and charges then each(!) individual(!) customer(!), who exceeds the benchmarks, with 2000 USD (and that implies the bulletin), and says then, that this 2000 USD (of each customer) is forwarded directly to the...

    New Leveraged ProShares ETFs Coming

Unlikely that futures traders would want to switch to a product with less liquidity, less leverage, and higher commissions.

    IB Ideal Forex Conversion

Yes, these are real. IDEALPRO is even better, commonly with spreads of only a couple pips or less. Do note that there are also commissions, minimums, etc., which you can find on the website.

    Message to IB: Commodity TRAKRS

Last time I checked, these are way too expensive to trade. The multiplier is 1 and they're priced in the $25 range, so a 1% move is worth only $0.25 per contract. Compare this to ES, where a 1% move is >$600 per contract, YI (mini silver) at >$1200 per contract, etc.

    Cheap Broker

I think the question meant writing checks that clear against (i.e. withdraw from) your IB account. The answer is no. You can only withdraw by requesting a wire, ACH/EFT, or paper check, in order of speed.

Good equity index futures strategy for recent volatile market?

I'm basically a micro-term stock trader, and make a living at it. I've done a little bit of directional futures trading when I felt strongly about fundamentals (like short silver), or as a hedge, but I know I don't have an edge. It seems that recently, the daily range of the SPX is greatly...

What happened to options market during 9/11?

None were assigned during that week, when the markets were closed. I think I bought them back in some time during the following week. They were mostly September contracts, if I recall correctly, and had little extrinsic value in them. I'll look up the details.

    Cheap Broker

With all due respect for ids, and the (surprising) official answer, I believe you will have a difficult time with tech support at IB (or anywhere else for that matter) running Win98. It's a terrible, unstable, unsupportable, unsupported OS, and those guys are human. New OS and new machines...

MB Trading: 12 day hold on check deposits

You just keep trying with hedges during earnings and other events, etc. Eventually, you'll get one that goes hard the wrong way. Options can even make this better, although with some leakage.

    IB Suggestions & Improvements

Quote from Bob111: if order placed before halt -it's not going to be canceled after stock is halted. i know that from my recent very painfull expirience. :D if you trying to place limit when stock is already halted-then it will be rejected. This may not be completely true unless IB...

Unable to Short AAPL or BRCM from IB

Pretty strange. I got a reject for GS yesterday. These are all huge float stocks. Hard to imagine that this is not being caused by a bug.

What happened to options market during 9/11?

It's interesting that the OCC remained open for business, including Monday 9/11. I would have expected them to give affected firms time to get their systems running again. I was short a bunch of puts that were already ITM, and went further ITM. None of them got assigned.

Why IB allow buy lmt order for price about last price?

Quote from Sanjuro: Suppose a stock's bid Price is 60.00. You can have a Limit Short Sell order for 50.00 and it is NOT illegal. IB will automatically add 1 cent to the current bid and put your short sell in at 60.01. Be careful. I don't believe IB does this. It's up to the particular...

Trying to find some initial margin requirements and having some difficulty.

Probably depends on the broker/FCM. Check out http://www.interactivebrokers.com/en/trading/marginRequirements/margin_amer.php?ib_entity=llc for example.

Why IB allow buy lmt order for price about last price?

Do you mean "above last price"? Limit buy orders that cross the market are a tool commonly used to avoid market orders. I don't know what the rest of it means.

IB IdealPro Cross Currency Margin Requirements

Apparently not, because the required margin is less than the sum of those required for the two positions, which is the point of the thread.

Fills between the bid and ask

Quote from glenjohnson: I noticed there must be hidden orders that are traded on the emini ES also. AFAIK, there is no support for hidden limit orders on GLOBEX. I don't see too many contracts traded on the DOM(debth of market pane) for ES contracts. I see 1,5, 20, every once in a while I...

Prop firm that trades thru Interactive Brokers?

I think the real question is "will IB provide increased (i.e. >retail) leverage to institutional accounts?" If not, they are unlikely to attract the typical prop firm that requires a more flexible risk-management model.
