Should you focus on one stock?

That's pretty funny because those are my favorite stocks to trade everyday. Here's my PnL for today.

POLL - Sell or Hold investment in Hedge Fund with 70% Drawdown?

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. Thanks Vorpal for your well thought out answer. The fund was averaging about 2% a month until this last drawdown. The monthly avg now stands at .62%. So it would take 375 months for the fund to recover if it keeps gaining at the current monthly avg. I...

POLL - Sell or Hold investment in Hedge Fund with 70% Drawdown?

I have invested in a Hedge Fund which is in a 70% Drawdown currently. This is the largest drawdown this fund has experienced since inception. The fund has recovered from a 50% Drawdown previously. Would you sell the investment and put the money elsewhere? Or keep the investment in the...

Trading journal with start capital $25K - Equities

Paper trading is like sitting at home on sofa pretending to be inside a car driving it. Trading small with real money is driving in the empty parking lot.

New Home - Possible to get back Earnest Deposit?

The real estate downturn has already been going down since 2005. The house prices here in the Bay Area have been VERY resilient and haven't really dropped much the last two years. In Cupertino, people are still bidding over asking prices for the homes recently. I figured when the housing...

New Home - Possible to get back Earnest Deposit?

Thanks for your thoughts. The most I would lose according to the contract is 3% of the Home value which is $22k. I do think I would be able to get back more if I back out now 6 months before the home is ready. If they don't, I will just pick all standard options and hold it into next April.

New Home - Possible to get back Earnest Deposit?

An earnest payment is a deposit towards the purchase of real estate made by a buyer to demonstrate that he/she is serious about wanting to complete the purchase. If the buyer defaults, the seller keeps this earnest payment for damages because they could've sold the house all this time they...

New Home - Possible to get back Earnest Deposit?

There was a page called "Removal of Contingencies". This removes all contingencies in the Contract. Including Financing, Sale of Buyer's Property, Title Documents... Goodbye 25k!

New Home - Possible to get back Earnest Deposit?

I put down a 25k earnest deposit in August 2007 for a new house here in Bay Area. The house was schedule to be completed in April 2008. It looks like the housing market in the area is down over 50k since I put down the deposit. Reading the contract, I think I'm screwed. They had me sign a...

IB data fees and staff contradictory replies

IB should have an setting option to get rid of the popup because one should not be forced to use their data. That being said, the current workaround is to pay the data feed until the setting option is implemented. Good Luck!

IB - need to be long and short a stock at the same time

That's genius. You'll be perfectly hedged against adverse market moves.

Averaging Down the real Holy Grail

That's the same thing that PairCo teaches except they use Pairs. They teach a 5 layer avg down and work the fluctuations between Pairs. I believe the term used was 'capturing the rolls' meaning to put on a layer when it goes against you and take it off when it goes in your favor. Lots of...

Did I get screwed by IB today ?

If your sell stop (18.93) is above the current market, it would turn into a market order immediately once submitted. I believe you meant 17.93 which IMMR did trade below and you got executed at 17.83 which I assume would be normal spread + slippage (10 cents) for IMMR.

How can programmers charge by the hour for systems automation?

It depends on the programmer. Some projects which are more difficult to fully estimate the time required may be charged by the hour. It is a good idea to speak with a few references and see some previous work before taking on a consultant. I know consultants who gather all the requirements...
