    Nyse routing: Laser vs Sterling

Don, It would be helpful if you could post a list of the routes available to Bright traders for an NYSE stock ("pretty much anywhere" makes it hard for a comparison). I'll start the list with the obvious candidates: INET, BATS, ARCA... what else do you have? Thanks.

Anyone know why futures get special tax rates?

It was something that Dan Rostenkowsi was able to push through for the benefit of his Chicago district while he was an influential member of congress. http://www.sfomag.com/homefeaturedetail.asp?ID=-1669757343&MonthNameID=February&YearID=2006 "This 60/40 tax treatment is the result of a...

    Retail vs Prop

Sounds like an excellent rate for short balances. Thanks for answering my question. In terms of 'derogatory statements', I'll just point out that my long posting history on ET will reflect that I'm not a Bright Trading 'hater'. To the contrary, I think that it is one of the better prop...

What do I gain at a Prop Shop?

    Retail vs Prop

The sad thing is that Don continues to repost the same incorrect and misleading statements. Here, he does the same thing in another thread: http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&postid=1489825&highlight=short+interest#post1489825 Actually, to the original poster, the linked...

    Retail vs Prop

Wow, that is really generous. Are you serious? The first part of this statement is meaningless, without providing the current short interest rates of Goldman (what are they currently paying on a ~$250k short balance, if you don't mind?). The second part of this statement is intentionally...

Yes, I would certainly agree with that statement. No doubt about it.

Why are people on ET so against a decent minimum wage

Wow, you sounds like an idealistic college student that doesn't have much experience or knowledge of the world (no offense). It's a good thing Churchill didn't share your views, or you'd be speaking German.

Why are people on ET so against a decent minimum wage

Personally, I'd prefer to have wages set by supply and demand, and would set the minimum wage to zero. In this way, wages are set based upon the value added by the workers skills. Let's assume an employer 'abuses' his employees by only paying $3 per hour. What will happen as a result...

I'm starting to realize ECN rebates are for suckers

I sent all of my non-marketable NYSE limit orders to ARCA. While I'm sure that ARCA is less likely to get a fill when at the inside along with NYSE, I like the rebate and know that in fast moving stocks, the NYSE will rarely even be at the inside market. That said, I have never found a good...

    Schedule D?

I agree. I do mine the same way that you do (one line summaries). If they want more detail, it can be provided on request. I'm just surpassing 700,000 transactions year-to-date, and would be more than willing to have them go through them, line by line, if they'd find this useful.

    Word on Oliver Velez?

Never let the truth stand in the way of a good story, especially if the fabricated stories are good for business.

Odds of this happening in poker

I think you are misunderstanding the question. You are correct, for a different question: Once you draw pocket aces twice in a row, the odds of getting pocket aces on the next hand is 1/221. However, the question I answered was what are the odds of drawing pocket aces on three...

    High eye pressure

It's not a big deal at all. Just an eyedrop before bedtime and you should be all set. In rare cases (like mine) you might have to have one or more eye surgeries. But, I don't believe that's common in many cases (my glaucoma was injury induced) Best of luck, and no worries.

Odds of this happening in poker

The odds of being dealt pocket aces are 1/221. Note that this is calculated as follows: Odds of getting an ace on first card = 4/52 Odds of then getting ace on second card = 3/51 Overall odds = 4/52 * 3/51 = 1/221 The odds of being dealt pockets aces twice in a row = 1/48841 (i.e...

    LAS Vegas Traders Expo

I'll be at the Expo in Vegas this year (as well as the one in NYC in Feb). I'm hoping that Baron will have some new T-shirts with the Elite Trader logo, since the one I'm wearing is getting a bit worn.

    The Old Fart Thread

I never got a QuoteTrack, but remember downloading prices every evening using my 1200 baud Hayes modem. Seems like prices came from a firm named CSI, and they charged you for every bit of data (open, high, low, close for a single day on a single security might cost a couple cents. I was...

    Genesis 90% IB 80%

I think that IB is a very good of jack-of-all-trades kind of firm that meets the needs of a very wide variety of traders. As a result, they have many satisified clients. Through IB, you can trade U.S. stocks, U.S. futures, currencies, foreign stocks and futures, basically anything you could...
