I'm not against HFT as a general rule, but exchanges need to charge for cancelled orders above a reasonable level. You shouldn't be able to send 100,000 orders then cancel them with no intent to actually buy or sell. It puts a strain on exchange infrastructure which everyone else has to pay...

It's a double edged sword. Sometimes market orders will get absorbed and price will reverse. Other times market orders will eat the available limit orders and price with breakdown even further.

Chronos, I think you're right about eliminating backtesting. Traders put to much emphasis on backtesting. Forward testing is the only way to test. As such, emphasis needs to be place on building systems that allow you to design and execute sophisticated meta strategies. Runningbear

Tradelink, You mention that tradelink can record data? How exactly is this done? If I wanted to capture time & sales data from my esignal feed, how is it captured and stored? Does that mean caching data in memory for calculations on the fly or data that mean database storage for later use...
