    Importing Data into Excel/OpenOffice

Sounds like a good starting point. Depending on their answer, that may dictate if you have to look for a dedicated data provider as there aren't too many free intraday data providers that I know of. I think many people/firms here use eSignal for this type of info, though there are plenty of...

    Help with strategy

Not sure that's fair, I tried to clarify what he's asking - either way, if he wants to make a bet on IV being different than HV he can buy/sell a straddle and hedge accordingly. What I was trying to get at in clarifying the point about price was that it sounded like he could be trying to...

    Synthetic Stocks

I'm not 100% up on lingo, but I think risk-reversals generally imply different strikes. Synthetic stock is by definition the same strike (330 P/C). While you can go long/short synthetic stock for a credit in most cases this will be equivalent to going long/short the underlying shares because...

Isolating risk factors: Fundamental vs. Technical

How do people isolate fundamental risk factors or trade catalysts? Using technical metrics seems more straightforward (i.e. if above 200dma stay in, if below, sell - that's your risk factor) - I'm not saying whether those metrics are valid or not. It seems the whole investment management...
