    High stakes poker gone bad

Haha, I'm imagining a scene like the poker lessons with Topher Grace in Ocean's 11. Pretty ridiculous story and I'm taking the under on Tobey making 30-40MM from poker. ...wonder if they would've let Einhorn play.

    LeBron and the little people

I think this is part of LeBron's problem - he's not well perceived. I didn't take his comment to imply any disrespect towards the 'little people', rather that those who wanted to see him fail have issues in their personal lives they should tend to as it's not healthy to want to see people...

Is TLT (20 yr bond index) self hedging?

A few points to consider: 1) Yes, if yields rise/price falls you do get compensated by reinvesting (coupons or principal) at a higher yield but you can suffer a MTM loss - this can be significant if (as you mention) the lag is longer than the immediate impact of a change in rates. 2) All...

Is TLT (20 yr bond index) self hedging?

It might help if you think of duration as a bond's price sensitivity to interest rates similar to an option's delta rather than a term to maturity. TLT's turnover may be attributable to maintaining a target price sensitivity given changing market conditions (though I can't say for sure).

Is TLT (20 yr bond index) self hedging?

I'm not quite sure I understand the question - does it help if you compare TLT with bond ladders? In my view it's not really a hedge, just a reflection of changing conditions.:) Immunization is a separate matter.

...to your point vwap wouldn't be an appropriate benchmark in this case, so to the original question, it depends. I've even seen job descriptions for 'execution trader' that were basically IT jobs managing code. I've also seen execution traders given incredible leeway in not only executing...

Fed Gave Banks Crisis Gains on $80 Billion Secretive Loans as Low as 0.01%

Agreed, was just multiplying by 10 since they said March-December (maybe still wrong). Either way, you make a good point for both points of view. Thanks.

Fed Gave Banks Crisis Gains on $80 Billion Secretive Loans as Low as 0.01%

Not quite sure I understand exactly what the outstanding notional, duration, or actual cost was - though gorilla math shows: $80B x .49%/12 x 10 = ~320 Million ...makes LTCM seem like a big deal? Also, to your point, it's an opportunity cost as opposed to some other 'bailouts', no?

    Sectors to exclude

I'm curious to see why you think they are safer but offer lower return - wouldn't a higher PF and Sharpe indicate that you could provide better risk adjusted returns (meaning more return for less risk)? You'd have to leverage up the system to provide the same absolute amount of return, no...

Is "Too Big to Fail" Too Light on Blame? Seriously!!

I used to think there was a large portion of responsibility that should be spread rather evenly and that individual homeowners were in large part guilty of taking out irresponsible loans - the key point though, comes down to the burden of responsibility, which imo does largely come down on the...
