What the hell does Bernanke & Co. mean by "all available tools"?

How else would you devalue a FIAT currency? Nothing else is going to work and they know it.

    Marketsurfer's bold gold proclamation

You're "fighting the Fed", IMO, and they run the presses. I think they'll freak if it breaks $1000 again, but otherwise they have too many other more critical problems to worry about. Trying to measure real gold in FIAT currency is hopeless. The end result will be that you are really...

    devaluation of the dollar

Devaluation was the only way out other than deflation and depression.

I remember when people did not perpetually lease or buy cars all the time.

No different if you are rich. You don't ever GET rich if you are borrowing to pay for frills.

I remember when people did not perpetually lease or buy cars all the time.

I won't argue that. No different than me buying a show car or race car. Did I need them, no, but I enjoy them, and could easily afford them. Had I needed to borrow to buy them it would be a different story. I wouldn't have them if that was the case.

    Marketsurfer's bold gold proclamation

Platinum is just a commodity used mostly for catalytic converters, for which demand has dropped dramatically of late. Gold is money as far as I'm concerned, and I'll just hold mine, thanks... I believe your dollars will one day be worth nothing, and gold everything. A whole nation can't...

I remember when people did not perpetually lease or buy cars all the time.

If a certain nation hadn't buried itself in debt, it wouldn't be trying to avoid a depression tonight.

Russian Warships may probe U.S./Obama response during transition of power

This is silly. Nobody cares. They were lucky the ships made it the whole way, and will be even luckier if they make it back.

I remember when people did not perpetually lease or buy cars all the time.

Still driving a 40+ mpg beater car, here. Paid $1700 for it in 2004, its 11 yrs old now, still running well. I can't understand why people need to borrow money to buy cars. Drive a beater and save money for a new car when you get rich if you must have something fancy. No shame in that...

Will GM BK Unleash CDS Tsunami?

Anyone want to guess what happens in the morning? The congress has decided to go home for the rest of the year. Bush doesn't want to use TARP money. Does the congress blink, or Bush, or neither?

Will GM BK Unleash CDS Tsunami?

Will GM BK Unleash CDS Tsunami?

What's wild is that nobody knows WHO is on the hook for those CDS's, and IF they can afford to make good on them. So frigging dangerous... I bet AIG wrote some of it.

    Now calling for $1T stimulus...

The problem is the trade deficit. If we send them our dollars and they don't buy anything we make, and won't LEND them back to us, either, our economy will crash because the numbers are so huge. Now that they are afraid to lend us more, we would need stimulus equal to the trade deficit, at...
