Odds of a "flash crash" later this week

Yeah Eurostox, I've been trying to play longer term PA with smaller trade sizes more. The daily clearly shows a downtrend. And with the herd mentality of all these trading algos, there have been lots of wild intraday swings in the last months. Most of the swings have been to the downside.

Why you should average up, NEVER down

When one averages up, they make profits when the price continues to move away from the mean. Averaging down, money is made during return to mean. Since most algos/HFTs use RTM, there seems to be a chance that avg down strats could be profitable in today's market. Of course I haven't completed...

Are we no longer in a bearish trend?

My account number was blanked out as well as position size. Rest is there. The important thing is my made money from this call, whether you like it or believe it or not.

Odds of a "flash crash" later this week

True for stocks probably. Especially with the breakers installed. But I think futures and FX will work fine.

Odds of a "flash crash" later this week

Almost had one today. Thought for sure today was the day after the overbought runup and a few bad earnings reports. Didn't call it correctly a few weeks ago, but, if more companies report bad earnings, and the Fed continues to report the truth, could have a -300 in an hour move any day now.

Are we no longer in a bearish trend?

We have been in a bearish trend since Late April, as mentioned before. This recent lower high did NOT go over the previous LH so the downtrend continues. Profit taking and irrational exuberancewere the cause of the recent lower high. I figured that as soon as more negative data comes out or a...

UFO in China causes airport shutdown

Some people are saying the burst about 30 seconds in is a rocket separation. It seems like a sonic boom to me. If it is a sonic boom, this thing is going VERY fast.

After 5 yrs, may switch off Tradestation, cheaper alternative?

TS 8.8 is a big improvement over earlier versions. The EL editor has it's own development environment now and not just the archaic text editor as before. Also, TS now allows you to upload and install individual updates and not have to waste time reloading the entire software package as the...

    What is happening to men?

Let me rephrase this. I meant to say H1Bs in technical fields. It would seem the vast majority of tech H1Bs are male. So, is the tech part of this program a way to avoid hiring American female tech workers?

    What is happening to men?

I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the H1b visa program. Close to 100% of H1Bs are male right? Is that program a way to hire men and not have to hire American women?

Be afraid of blogs, be very afraid...

If a blog presents verified facts, numbers, or statistics to back up the argument, I'm ok with it. What I don't like is bloggers who shoot from the hip with their opinion with no facts to back up anything. I also am tired of sportswriters/bloggers who wait until the game is over to say good...

Odds of a "flash crash" later this week

Largest downmove today is only ~1% in an hour so far as it took some time for the "irrational exuberance" upswing to peter out. I've made some profits in this current move today, so maybe it's better to have lots of consistent smaller (~1% or so in an hour) downmoves over many weeks than a big...

World Governments should just stop stimulus programs - they only make matters WORSE.

This solar deal that has been trumpeted shows all the reasons why the stimulus package failed. They are touting the creation of ~4000 jobs with $2B. Meaning it costs $500k per job created. By comparison, a great deal of the jobs lost in the past few years were $50K or less jobs in tight...

Weekly Poll: History Suggests Bullish Bias

Good call. It took a few more hours for the profit taking and holiday covers to finish, but it did tank well into after hours.

Odds of a "flash crash" later this week

Only about 1% in an hour today. Nice move EOD/after market to the short side after short profit taking and short closing positions for the holiday weekend. Made some profit from that move.

Weekly Poll: History Suggests Bullish Bias

The market is down ~10% in the last 10 trading days and ~5% in the last 5 trade days. I don't know what you consider a crash but, historically, 10% in 10 days would be considered a major event.

Odds of a "flash crash" later this week

So far, only ~1.4% in an hour time span. Profit taking took over again. I'm partially to blame as I took some profit off the table too...

UK Budget will cost 1.3 million jobs - Treasury

To expand a little more on the theory of credit rating driving the current push to austerity: The credit rating agencies are still smarting from taking a pounding for their (lack of) performance during the financial crisis. An argument can be made that the real estate part of the fincris would...
