    Tape Reading Observations

I should mention that when I see this happen on the buy-side, I'm almost always making money on the setup. It's just the short side that is driving me crazy.

    Tape Reading Observations

I'm a newbie trader, and I trade expensive stocks [with mostly success], anywhere from $70-$100, on the NYSE. A lot of times I see guys with big orders on the bid or the offer. Then, no one actually hits the offer. So, I see the big order get split up in half and adjusted so the offer...

why does ib not have level 2 platform to trade

It would be easier if you downloaded a demo of LASER from www.gndt.com, or if you visited Assent and tried their Anvil or Hammer software. Hotkey setup is not fundamentally different from IB, but the options for key assignment are greater. i.e., I can make F1 be "ARCA Buy Offer", F4 "ARCA...

why does ib not have level 2 platform to trade

What is a long gamma strategy, and where do I read about such exotic sounding things?

    First profitable month ever!

Well, I guess I would've had more of a record month had I not tried some experimenting. I took some mild losses this month because I was trying to add another stock to the mix. I trade the same stock over and over every day. I can't seem to trade other things as effectively. Maybe I just...

    First profitable month ever!

Thanks all for your advice and help. Namely, in the thread about losing days and calling it quits. That thread alone helped me immensely. Feels good. Now, I just have to erase the $3,000 in net loss I racked up from June->September.

why does ib not have level 2 platform to trade

I want all the inside quote information displayed to me on a level-2 screen and hot-key hits to specific ECNs. I can't figure out how to hot-key hitting ARCA vs ISLD, for example. Do you know how to do that?

    Broker with high-quality hot-key setup?

A half-second is too slow. If I see a quote a like, I need it immediately. If I don't snatch shares on the book on a breakout on the stocks I trade, I'm going to end up overpaying by anywhere from 7-15 cents. That's just unacceptable.

Poll: What step are you on right now?

Ignore this guy's comments Kaching, except as a source of motivation. Right after he said I would be a losing trader, I posted 4 weeks in a row of profit. This guy is some kind of ET troll.

    Broker with high-quality hot-key setup?

A little explanation first: I want to aggressively swing trade my retirement accounts. I started off trading at a prop shop, then left and started trading at home. I trade with Genesis securities, and I love their interface. My day trading account has a great hot-key setup where I can...

Poll: What step are you on right now?

I'm at 33. I'm consistently making money now, but there's still so much more work. Taking up position size, adding new items to trade, etc. The biggest thing that kept me from going up was having big losing days. Once I learned to stop at a certain level, the bankroll-going-down trend got...

Using a voice recorder while trading

It does make sense. What I'm curious about is whether the processing requirements of Camtasia slow down your order entry or displays while running it. If it doesn't, I want to know what speed processor you have so I can figure out if I need to upgrade my hardware to do what you are doing on...

When do you call it quits in a day?

Thank you very much. I'm just glad to know there are other guys out there doing this.

Using a voice recorder while trading

I use Snag-It, a sub-product of Camtasia (or at least, it is from the same company.) I have a 2.4GHz P4, 1.75GB of RAM, 200GB disk space, two dual-head nVidia boards. One is PCI w/128MB ram, one is AGP 8x w/ 64MB of ram on the board. Genesis LASER, E-Signal, MSIE, maybe an MP3 player, MSN...

Using a voice recorder while trading

I use this, but it slows down my computer considerably. What sort of system setup do you have, or do you record with some options turned down?

When do you call it quits in a day?

I hate it when you respond. Last time you gave me a wacko response, I had problems having even runs of winning days. I overcame that problem. You !@#$er. I'm going to put a sign on my desk that says, "Cheese wants you to lose more" and solve this problem soon. Post your photo and I'll...

When do you call it quits in a day?

I'm a new trader (4 months under my belt.) I have fantastic days, where my trade lists are crisp. No loser > 4 cents, a solid set of hits. 1-2 cent losers, nice 10-20 winners. I'll feel like a king. Win:loss size ratios of 7:2 on good days with a 45-55% win rate. I'll let it go for 4-5...

    Self-employed contractor AND a trader?

Well, I already started trading. I have some mentors, they've helped me out. I pretty much decided I want to be a career trader. I went through about 3 months of losing, then flatlining. I'm doing ok on the trading front. I'm not losing major cash, though I still have a bad day now and...

    Self-employed contractor AND a trader?

Answers: 1) No. This is my first year contracting, so I'd say I'm a 1099 software & electronics engineer. 2) I trade as an individual 3) I trade equities on the NYSE 4) When I started and was losing money, I traded at a trading company called "Assent." I lost about $2000 there, and then...
