Longtime prop trader says 4% of day traders made decent money

It is also important to realize that this is not a random sample. When you give people money to trade and give them a little education you have limited your study. There are many successful traders, myself included, who laugh at this and would never be part of that crowd. We aren't being counted.

Longtime prop trader says 4% of day traders made decent money

I'm sure they do include the failed traders during the time they are trading. But then they don't. It's like asking how much money the average car company makes. No one answers that question by first researching the 2,500 failed car manufacturers from the last 100 years.

Longtime prop trader says 4% of day traders made decent money

The average is very heavily weighted towards those who keep trading, which just happens to be the successful traders. They don't add "earned $0" each day for those failed traders who left and are no longer trading. So yes, it is very possible and the number makes good intuitive sense. If you...

Longtime prop trader says 4% of day traders made decent money

Other things in life work out this way too. People try lots of different things without giving it much effort just to see if it might be for them. You really don't need to compare yourself to those feeble attempts. Just work at it harder.

What else would BTC be used for?

This is untrue yet often repeated by the anti-crypto crowd. Bitcoin is far more easily traced and tracked than paper dollars.

    Portfolio risk allocation Math Teaser

You need to decide on a probability distribution for the second fund. If you assume Gaussian, as we usually do since we have no idea, then don't put any money into the second fund because you have obviously calculated an average return of 0% annually.

What else would BTC be used for?

Far more crime is done with US dollars. But the cant-be-bothered-to-do-math crowd won't realize this.

    Execution speed

Another good idea I have not tried. But again, it's the acknowledgement of order receipt that is causing the delay. They are literally holding it. The execution part is fast. However, this acknowledgment coming back may not literally mean what it is documented to mean. Maybe the entire...

    Execution speed

You shouldn't notice much of a difference. The idea is that you will find better pricing on average. IB does not explain why turning it off may create an advantage. What do you mean that orders when to "never-ever land"? They just did not execute?

    Execution speed

USA. Suburb of Atlanta. 1 Gbps fiber from AT&T. I'm 12.5 ms from the IB server.

    Execution speed

I had done this before but turned it back on. Please explain. This delay is the time to get an acknowledgment they received the order. It's possible this ACK is not exactly what it seems and they are in fact searching dark pools during this 1,100 ms. But even then it's quite a long delay...

    Execution speed

IB is holding my marketable limit orders on US stocks for 1,100 ms before sending them to an exchange. SMART router settings and even "sweep to fill" are not improving this. When they hold an order it is always 1,100 ms with almost no variation in the delay. This is very repeatable. So far...

IB now routes to NASDAQOM instead Emerald when smart routing is configured for minimal costs

You can select SMART routing options in TWS. For example, "maximize rebates" is one option. But it's likely close to a zero sum game. If rebates are higher then so are fees for liquidity takers and that impacts their actions and prices slightly. You hope they are routing to maximize your...

Exactly what you want from your broker. lol. "won't go anywhere".

One firm beats them all, again.

IB has always had plenty of cash and a general low-risk attitude regarding what they will allow their traders to get away with. It seems they won't go belly up when the next storm hits.

    Latency

You will have to be more specific about exactly what latency you are interested in lowering and what your measurements have been thus far. Or else you will get a very wide range of general answers.

    vix margin increase at IB

Just got a message tonight from IB that holding FLWS (1-800-Flowers) will now require 100% margin. Not an issue for me but really odd. Makes you paranoid that the market is about to drop further.

What action will take ETH miners?

PoW is pretty much dead but there is one advantage: Security. With PoS you could in theory take over the network. But it's assumed to never happen because the cost would be extremely high and with no clear benefit since you then made your own tokens worthless.

    Market misunderstands ETH

The US government has been saying this for years. Please tell me what is different this time? We already know they feel threatened by it and want to tell you all the things you can't do with data.

What action will take ETH miners?

    Yes. This.
