    Stop-loss protection

I'm paranoid about stop losses, even wide ones, getting hit by a bot or some floor trader playing games, particularly with futures and options and thinly traded ones. Is there a way a way to prevent this? Let's say I was long KC (coffee futures contract) and it was trading at 125 and I had a...

How do I close trades when there is no bid / ask

And now that I have the short puts trade hedged, how about a covered call that has a ITM call, suddenly? I'd rather close the trade, take a profit and eat a little remaining theta, than risk a whipsaw.

How do I close trades when there is no bid / ask

Sorry, I didn't get the screen shot, and what kind of call should I buy? ATM? ITM? My ITM options strikes are limited as this is an electronically traded futures option.

    Coffee futures options question

Yeah the ones that are circa ATM have quotes but not the ITMs. eRFQ work for this at IB?

How do I close trades when there is no bid / ask

Wouldn't I be losing the theta in the call, too, in addition to the price spread and commissions? Thanks for the suggestion regardless; I knew there had to be a way to construct something close to a neutral offset, but my mind was elsewhere.

How do I close trades when there is no bid / ask

Thanks. Will keep that in mind for long calls or puts. I also have a covered call, I want to take profits early on, and a short put that worthless. Any strategies for these.

How do I close trades when there is no bid / ask

I wrote a put, three days ago; it's now worthless. But there is no bid and ask, and when I post one I get a crazy ask. Is the bottom line here you are fucked and have to wait out the trade to expiration or it starts to turn against you? Blows, if so, and the last time, I'll trade a futures...

How do I close trades when there is no bid / ask

I'm using IB and I have a couple futures options positions on that are way the money or way out of he money, and I'd like to close them. But there's no bid ask on those strikes. trading on theNYBOT and the eCBOT. I guess they don't have to post bid-asks. Strategies? Hate to think I just have to...

    Coffee futures options question

I have an ATM call, $1.25. I'm in no hurry to close out the trade, but I'd like to know I can, if I wanted to. I can't get a quite, however. Using IB. Quotes for a couple of higher strikes, but not $1.25. What does one do? Is this a caveat of FO's on IB?

spreading futures and ETF, how to be price neutral?

Didn't think there would be much of a spread between those two instruments, unlike say two different futures contracts or stocks that have have a more measurable correlation. You have the carry and not much else, right? Educate me, seriously.

    ATR and other ranges

What is a good website or service for getting average daily trading ranges and average monthly or even yearly trading ranges for futures? With or without charting.

spreading futures and ETF, how to be price neutral?

Guys, I'm curious. What is the value in being dollar neutral in, say, ES and the SPY? Trying to capture theta with options, more safely? Tax benefit, trading one side in a tax-deferred account, taking losses in the non-tax-deferred? Curious.

    New to CT question

If there is an October futures contract trading currently, why are the September options linked to the December futures? Is this an anomaly in the softs? Any others I should be aware of?

Coffee traded on NYBOT and NYMEX

I guess about 10 years ago I recall seeing some mini coffee contract getting hyped; I thought it was called a C as in the class of coffee. Not sure what happened to it. Or I was dreaming.

Coffee traded on NYBOT and NYMEX

Yeah, mean a mini coffee; currently contemplating trading the regular, KC. Was just wondering who uses the Nymex contract and why?

Coffee traded on NYBOT and NYMEX

What's the difference between the two contracts KT and KC, besides size, and why are they traded on two different exchanges? Btw, is there a "C" mini traded electronically?

Can you see margin used by position on IB's TWS

I guess when I turn KC into a covered call it goes from the exchange margin to SPAN, which apparently IB can't calculate and put in a margin report, at least not for NYBOT products? Weird. I'll do a trouble ticket. BTW, what is the difference between the KT on NYMEX and KC on NYBOT. They are...

Can you see margin used by position on IB's TWS

This is helpful -- but the futures trades re not broken out; it just says ECBOT/CBOT with a dollar amount, no detail. And NYBOT/ICE trades are not listed in the report at all. Is this a glitch or an IB quirk? Anyway around this?

    Coffee futures and options question

Okay, so let me see if I understand; Let's say I have a 1.30 call on coffee, hypothetically and the underlying September bought at 1.25, and when the call expires on August 14 the next day I roll the underlying into December? As for out months on futures and options for KC, I am trading...
