How do you lose $5 billion in one week?

Same way you lose 500 or 5000 in a week... I've heard that their trade was profitable. Illiquidity was the problem...more specifically GREED.

Oil Mini-Glut Is Coming: Short Oil Stocks

He made up that up on his 85th b-day. The old man also drilled a drilling co into the ground when oil was too cheap for its margins. Anyone who goes on tv regularly with price targets in the sky is unloading boatloads but thanks to the viewers he can die filthy rich. BTW, who still waiting for...

    Any VLO traders here?

Started playing calls today. Was expecting a gap down for cabitulation but it looks set to go higher next week or back up to here if it falls tomorrow imo. Not the OSX, it looks ready to tank.

    High Inflation- Bullish or Bearish?

Yeah without clarification "high inflation" will get interpreted differently. Does he mean very high you know like high high or just kinda high? Not quite hyper just above 'normal'... 6 oz of Coke cost a nickel 50 years ago. Now it's 10x more for the same amount of syrup and water...

Questions to ask recruiters at Prop Firms

You might as well ask for their rates and payouts, and while you're at it, the tax returns too. Get real. Any office manager will tell you how their top guys pull in 500-1000 a day and you can too. But of course it would be rude to ask them, so forget about it. If you can't meet the cap req...

How's real estate market in your area?

'Ave' doesn't convey how far the dollar really goes in Seattle. Try $570k for this Wedgwood beauty- 150k above asking. <img src="http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/ABPub/2006/08/07/2003182200.jpg">

    Going Prop = Resume Killer?

He's exactly right. The shops out there soliciting traders (i.e. customers) on craigslist and ET will take anyone with $5k. They even take kids off the street to get bodies to churn 100 sh lots. Their top 'talent' are mostly gamblers who scalp the open book. So when the specialists are done away...

    (Why) do most traders lose?

Trying to keep regular job hours and 'earn' your pay thru 60-70+ hours a week, you'll just end up filling the day with 'research' and reading distractions that lead to forming strong opinions. Trading isn't 'effort responsive' like training for a sport. You don't necessarily get out what you put...

    GOOG today

Goog does its own thing intraday, but dangling below the 200 here is like waiting for the floor to give way on the slightest news. Unless msft's hq blows up it's hard to factor in any more good news at this point just after earnings. GL

    OIH oversold

Yep 130 was below the trendline but the market bounce has been good for those 9 pts from there. 150 looks doubtful without oil running to 80. GL

Jim Rogers: Oil will hit $100

Amen. If we are looking at a final high for this year it likely would be 80 rather than 90 or 100. Anything above the last high to lift this OIH up solely for the purpose dropping it 5% again is fine with me. :p http://tequity.blogspot.com

Is perfect credit required for props?

The shops often metioned here would take an out of work illegal as long he can sign his name and put up the risk capital. If a discount broker (ameritrade, etrade, etc) accepted your 'application' to open an account, prop shops are no different in that neither cares where your money comes from...

    NYSE or NASDAQ?

In my experience when you get into NYSE or NASDAQ it depends on the 'strategy' that their top traders use and which they might push on newbies, like scalping NYSE for a few cents. In that case they might even discourage NASDAQ unless you got experience or put up the risk capital. So it depends...

    Intraday options strategies

I know guys who try to scalp the oih and get the same results, and goog is much much worse. Options are the way to go say for the OIH's last trips from 133 to 150 and back to 135. Those trips were good for 300+ percent on the front contracts. One problem with OIH contracts is they don't trade...
