    mini Gold and delivery

I've been trying to figure out the same thing. I think, in any case, it is time to move to the August contract if you're trading YG. Today's volume so far in YG is as follows: YG (June) = 27 contracts YG (August) = 360 contracts I imagine if you have a broker like IB that doesn't allow...

This thread sure is loads of laughs... Freedomfighter = 45 posts so far today Wish I had your free time.

    Basic question re pit-traded options

Could anybody give me some insights into how pit-traded options work? What I mean is: If you are looking at a thinly traded issue, how do you know what the current bid and ask are? I've been eyeing Euro options. I've made some $ off of the recent Euro run-up and I thought I could buy a...

Did you remark that yahoo/bigchart historical datas are false ?

I think a more plausible answer is that Yahoo data is basically crap. I noticed some discrepancies in their option data once and sent them an e-mail. The reply I got back essentially said "well, we're really sorry but it is a known fact that we're having problems with our data...".

    Trading remote and Health insurance

Maybe my sarcasm wasn't apparent. I shouldn't let myself write here after a certain hour... :) But anyway ... I was just voicing my frustration at the difficulty of obtaining health insurance as a self-employed person. I know in my state at least (New York), the options are few and they...

    Trading remote and Health insurance

You want health insurance? What are you? Some kind of a communist? Love it or leave it. We don't do things that way here. Why don't you high-tail your rats arse to Europe? :D www.freelancersunion.org

Tradestaton - You have to be 21 to open account?

Interactive Brokers is of course a very good broker. But you might accidentally have a slip of the pen (or keyboard) when you fill out the application. Otherwise I think you will have to wait until your birthday to open an account. Not that I am recommending that you do this ... :D And...

    Is the Rally almost over??

This is what has been driving this rally all along: Traders getting short in anticipation of the plunge (à la 2002). Then some buying interest comes in, and every short gets stopped out.

    OT: getting rid of spyware

Do you have a virus checker installed? Last year I installed Norton Antivirus on my bro's computer, and it found a virus that was designed to take him to some stupid porn site from time to time. Not malicious, but still annoying. Norton got rid of it. You might have something similar on your...

    Towards a free options marketplace

I think they cancel fees are imposed only on retail traders. If you're a market maker, you don't pay cancel fees. This helps keep retail traders from buying and selling to one another. You're forced to buy from/sell to the market maker (unless you place a limit order and just leave it...).

    Towards a free options marketplace

Just a little quote from Yahoo: "Greenspan repeated his opposition to regulating derivatives, but said heavy concentration in the market 'gives me and others some pause.' 'If a major dealer exited and other dealers were unwilling to fill the void, the liquidity of the market likely would be...

    Towards a free options marketplace

In another thread some people have been discussing option cancellation fees (again). My conclusion is that cancellation fees are intended to discourage smaller participants from trying to gain the spread. The spread tends to be very large since any potential competition is stuck with a big ball...

What is going on with IB?

Since this is an-anti IB thread, I'm going to move to a new thread. Seems like we're discussing a free options marketplace, not problems with IB...

What is going on with IB?

For options: I believe that IB is passing along costs imposed by options exchanges. Only a guess... For stock API orders: I think (maybe) IB wants to protect itself. Another thought: Imagine someone wanted to disrupt IB's (or some other broker's) order system. Computer...

What is going on with IB?

Seems like some people are missing the main point of the cancel fees, which is to PROTECT market makers from Joe Trader who knows how to program. Think about it: You're a market maker on, say, XAU options: You've got September 85 puts at 15.60 bid, 16.60 ask. Of course, there are not a lot...

    please share SSF intraday experiences

Def -- Thanks for the recalculation. What I am wondering is: Once the stock goes ex-dividend, will the price of the SSF increase by the amount of the dividend? I thought it would have to, which basically means this is not an interesting play at all. But looking at GM SSFs (May and June)...

    Tradestation "Problem"

In defense of Tradestation: I believe they are in the process of changing their futures clearing firm from Lind-Waldock/Refco to R.J. O'Brien this very week. That could be slowing them down. I have to admit that I don't use their brokerage services even though I have an account. Their charts...

    please share SSF intraday experiences

Just made my first SSF attempt today (trying to capture dividend). Sold 1 MO June SSF @ 30.62 Bought 100 MO at 31.09 Difference = -0.47 Dividend = 0.64 Ex-Dividend in early June (hopefully!) Commission = $2.00 Net profit = $15 (unless they cancel the dividend) Annual rate =...

    Deep ITM covered call

One little risk that I haven't seen mentioned here: If the price of GE drops to a point where you decide to get out, you have to cover your short call position first. Unfortunately, it won't have dropped as fast as the underlying (due to remaining time value). You will have to take a loss to...
