    Grains To The Moon

I think I have that backwards, the MARGINS for spreads should be less than what they would be if you traded the contracts seperately, sorry. . . . pay no attention to that man behind the curtain

    Grains To The Moon

For spread trades you do not pay two full commissions for each leg. You pay one commission which should be quite a bit less. Check with your broker.

I have 3 friends who work the pit at MGX. From what I gather the vast majority of their trades are spreads. They are always looking for ways to hedge. I do not trade the grains but I like to keep an eye on them. I pretty much just trade the ES.

AHG - Profitable Strategy for Struggling Traders

I get more tips from watching the tape than I do from the price action on the chart. You can see past support and resistence on a price chart but you can see the new levels of S & R building in the tape. A chart is only history of what has already happened. Activity at the current market...

    probability

Chart patterns can be important in finding high probablility trades. Dbl tops, dbl bottoms, head & shoulders, etc, etc. If a market has moved up and has stalled, short it. If a move down has stalled, buy it. BUT ALWAYS USE A STOP IN CASE YOU ARE WRONG. For new traders this game is...

    Grains To The Moon

I suspect shorting opportunities will be arriving at some point in beans. We have had a fairly steady climb up but I imagine it will be very volatile like wheat was when it started falling. If you are going to try and hold a position be prepared for limit up and limit down days.

    Grains To The Moon

From CBOT January soybeans made a new contract high today and a new all-time high for any January contract. Nearby futures moved to the highest level since August of 1973 with November soybeans taking out the 2004 highs.

Any thoughts on how the Bird Flu outbreak might affect grain prices? http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aqtKbIkzvlW4&refer=home Interesting today that oil was down yet beans were up. Many times they move together. I am not currently trading the grains but keep an eye on...

    Grains To The Moon

A friend of mine who grows corn & beans says the price of fertilizer has gone up quite a bit but has not shared any figures with me. He had record yields this year; not too often you get the combination of record yield and high prices. Another friend of mine who farms about an hour north of...

    Grains To The Moon

I have a lot of respect for farmers (my dad was a dairy farmer in his younger years). Glad to see they are finally getting better prices for their products. Not sure how long it will last as their costs to produce will be rising considerably.

Farmers are still subject to the same fear and greed that the rest of us are subject to. They tend to always be bullish. Why would anyone who puts a crop in the ground be bearish?

total implosion of the u.s. real estate market

I don't think water will be a problem for Vegas. There is a pretty good size lake behind the Hoover Dam. It would take several winters in a row with no snow in Colorado to bring the water level down. Unrelated, but FWIW, there is enough water in the Ogala reservoir to cover the continental...

    Big Screen vs Multi Screen

Byte, I did not have much time to compare. Yours may well be better. My 19" View Sonic (only 3 years old) crapped out and I had to get one quickly. If money was no problem my first choice would be 30" Apple no questions asked. Bing

    Big Screen vs Multi Screen

I just got a 24" Acer from Micro Center for $399. Mail-in rebate brings it down to $299. Can't go wrong. I think the rebate ends 10/28 tho. Works great.

How do the BIG BOYS trade?

He is rather skeptical where I have two other friends in the pit who are more optimistic. Still, a guy may be profitable for a few years and then wash out. So if you include all those perhaps his numbers are not too far off. To become successful you have to really want it. But it can be done...
