AMZN: "This is our best year ever!"

Not saying to sell AMZN and put it away. Just for a quick day trade. There is no question that AMZN is taking market share from brick and mortar retailers and I am no long term bear (or bull for that matter) on the stock. Did you read the press release.? It was a complete bullshit metric...

Japanese Companies Cut Production The Most In 55 Years

Japanese stocks were up today. Just thought I'd point that out - I like reading the news as much as the next guy, but ultimately I'm in the markets to make money.

Does this law threaten the existence of every fund in the USA?

Aren't hedge funds just glorified partnerships? If you are a "partner" in a fund that conducts fraudulent activity, any proceeds you get from that fraudulent activity are considered "ill-gotten" and subject to being returned to your other partners.

Best stocks to short in the credit card sector?

Discover got a nice pop this week based on some bs earnings nonsense and their announcement that they will apply for TARP funds. Good opportunity to fade that. I'm personally short Capital One, but not feeling all that great about it anymore. The news is clearly out regarding the dire...

Credit Cards: a Huge Bubble in the US Credit Market(Short COF)

Been short COF for awile (posted it on the fin'l shorts thread). The position is marginally profitable, which I am thrilled about - given that the S&P is up nearly 20% since I shorted the stock. COF is a "dead man walking". However, it is one of the "chosen ones" by Treasury. Expect all...

How to create a synthetic carry trade

The Fed is at zero and will hold it there for awhile. Banks may borrow at 0% and purchase Treasuries that yield 2%+, thus earning an easy (and relatively risk-free) profit. Additionally, I expect hedge funds (those that are left) will borrow in $'s and invest those funds in higher yielding...

    T Bond has gone parabolic

I don't know - things move very quickly these days. A lot of folks thought oil was bubbly at $145. I don't think even the most bearish among them thought oil would be $40 within just a few months. Try to imagine a world in June of 09 with the 30 year at 6%. What's the most attractive...

    T Bond has gone parabolic

Crash is coming - this week, next month, next year ... I don't know. I'd like to get traders thoughts on the best way to play it. My guess would be to purchase deep out-of-the-money puts on the CBOT. Another option would be deep out-of-the-money interest rate calls on the CBOE. Yet...

why is the pound dropping so fast

Pound has fallen from 1.90 to 1.48 over the last 4 months and from 2.10 over the last 12 months and NOW you post this. The pound has stopped falling recently. I'd be far more interested to know what will happen over the next few months rather than hearing one of a thousand reasons why it has...

    Black Swan hits Bill Miller

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122886123425292617.html He beat the S&P every year from 1991-2005. In one year, that's all been wiped away and his fund is among the worst performers over a 1, 5, or 10 year stretch. I guess buying the dips works ... until it doesn't.

If it drops on your foot and hurts then own it get long US Steel X 100% up room to go

Does anybody know anyting about Gartman's record? He seems like another follow-the-crowd type to me, but I could be wrong. I heard him in an extended interview on Bloomberg a couple of weeks ago saying since "things that hurt when they drop on your foot" were going down in price every day...
