Any long term strugglers out there?

I'm personally a skeptic when it comes to using TA/charts in isolation. I'm not suggesting there aren't people out there doing it profitably, but IMHO it's a real rabbit hole. Very, very easy to remain in denial for a very long time since there's always a way to paint pretty pictures...

    Best Accountant/CPA for Day Traders

At what point do you think a trader would gain materially by contacting Green as opposed to just doing their own taxes? For example, is there ballpark dollar figure amount of gains per year where the cost would be justified? I've always done my own taxes, and take the typical, reasonable...

Curious About How People Feel About The Amazon/Hachette War -- WARNING: A LONG READ!

Amazon and digital distribution inherently make publishing cheaper and easier, so publishers will probably have a reduced role and need to give up some of their margins. Not entirely sure this is great for authors - if it results in more purchases, then great.. but even if it doesn't, I still...

Using Katsuyama's IEX as a SMART router

I thought that's basically what Thor was doing? Maybe they don't call it Thor since it's property of RBC?

Career trader's perspective on living off trading profits vs living on salary?

Even though I've been FT for years now, I never saw myself as a "professional trader". I guess I equate "professional trader" as someone who works in the industry (prop trader at bank, hedge fund, etc), not a home-based retail trader. I think FT home-based retail trader has such a bad...

Career trader's perspective on living off trading profits vs living on salary?

I do think about the salaried job vs trading issue quite a bit. I left behind a very decent paying career (easy six-figure income) - I was let go from my last company, but it would've been easy to get another job with my knowledge/contacts/experience. At the time, I was pretty burned out from...

Career trader's perspective on living off trading profits vs living on salary?

First, just to be a devil's advocate, I think there's actual research that shows that "active retail traders" are the worst performing group. http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/day-trading-success-rates.html http://www.travismorien.com/FAQ/trading/futradersuccess.htm And these don't...

Penalty for this kind of stuff needs to be MUCH MUCH higher. This does NOTHING to discourage this kind of crime.

Short HLF - I'm all in

That being said, I would like to see them out of business as well. MLMs suck. I just wouldn't like being short knowing Icahn could get on CNBC any minute and drive it up another 10%.

Short HLF - I'm all in

Was there any part of Ackman's presentation today that was particularly new or convincing? Personally, I was expecting a LOT more after the statements he made yesterday about this being the most important speech of his life.

    Retail routing to IEX exchange

I've been routing limit orders to IEX with IB for weeks now just fine. I believe previous poster was having problems with stop orders specifically, which I don't use.

    Hidden Orders

I "feel" that there's a little less adverse selection with a hidden order than a displayed resting order (e.g. with a displayed order, you're more likely to get hit if the price is going to move against you anyway, and less likely to get a fill if the price is moving in a favorable direction)...

Professional online poker player to trader?

Poker's pretty much a closed ecosystem where the only participants are fellow players, so besides the rake, you just need to be somewhat better than the average player to be profitable. Within the trading ecosystem, retail daytraders (this includes prop) are by far the biggest losers. Traders at...

IB API Quote requests inconsistantly filled

Reaction to Michael Lewis's book and "60 Minutes" interview

Lewis is a great rabble rouser and has a main street audience. The others you wouldn't even have heard of unless you were in the industry already. I think there are too many entrenched interests, so you really needed the fear mongering on main street to kickstart the government action.

    Hidden Orders

I've actually been wondering the same thing. From some empirical observation just on IB, I feel like when I use hidden orders routing with IB Smart, I feel like I'm not 100% hidden. Sometimes someone will step in front of my order, or there's a greater chance I won't get a fill. I get better...
