"Trading as a Business" quant interview, highly recommended

As a matter of fact, Fisher Black was pretty successful in business, he worked for Goldman for several years. He also said that "markets are far more efficient when viewed from the banks of the Charles than from the banks of the Hudson," when he made a shift from the academia in Boston to an...

"Trading as a Business" quant interview, highly recommended

As someone said, forecasting is difficult, especially if you try to forecast the future . . . I mean, think about the people who had made a conscious, calculated bet on Google stock at the IPO price level . .. Now THOSE people are the ultimate forecasters, if you ask me. .. I would even...

"Trading as a Business" quant interview, highly recommended

Right . .. . and quants are also responsible for the global warming and all other problems on this planet . . . A group of nuclear physicists had invented the atomic bomb. Does this mean we should blame Dr. Ernie Chan or David Leinweber for the fact that various countries now have large...

    Jim Rogers

I guess we'll just have to wait and see. If two people make 100% opposite predictions, at least one of them will turn out to be right. :D It's probably good to read some research for context, but none of it is bullet-proof. At the end of the day, it's only the price that pays.

    Jim Rogers

Right, but most people are bearish on the dollar even in the short term, I think. Jim gave an interview on Reuters the other day, where he also said that he didn't see any signs that the dollar would be strengthening, even in the short term. But Faber has been saying, for a couple of...

    Jim Rogers

Good point, Swan Noir. . .. I'm confused. Jim is bearish on the dollar. On the contrary, Marc Faber seems to be short-term bullish on the dollar, he keeps saying it's become oversold, and is due for a correction of up to 10% against major currencies. I always listen to what Faber says...

Newbie FAQ - a must read for newbies

Good thread. Interesting links. I think the best piece of advice for a newbie would be to look at what actual traders are doing, for example: www.dangramza.com www.forex-hunter.blogspot.com Study Michael Covel's book on the turtle movement, an important piece of research, in many...

Anyone made money using Elliott Waves ?

The good thing about Fibonacci is that it gives you a sense of proportion. A retracement from a meaningful move is probably closer to 40%, than it is to, say, 3%. That's the point. This stuff is meant to refine intuition and be a general guide. It's not a set of instructions.

Anyone made money using Elliott Waves ?

I guess the question is whether this 5-3 structure is REALLY supported by evidence. You can eyeball any chart and see that in most cases any up move, in an uptrend, for example, is followed by some sort of retracement. You don't need EW to see that a trend is evolving through zig zags. It's...

Anyone made money using Elliott Waves ?

I mean is there any added value in getting the EW view on what I'm trading (currencies)? They do stand out from the rest of technical crowd, I'll give them that. It's just I'm not convinced so far that it can contribute to my research. I don't want to pay my hard earned dollars for mere...

Anyone made money using Elliott Waves ?

Anyone using Elliott Wave in forex trading? I'm thinking about getting a subscription to an EW forex commentary. The argument against doing that is pretty strong. Maybe EW catches some patterns in a very general way, but it's not readily tradable. And they may be wrong on timing. I'm...

The usual question: how is it possible?

You are making very serious accusations against Ernest Chan, who is one of the great traders of our time. To say that a person "has never made a single cent trading", especially Ernest Chan, is a serious allegation. And where exactly is the proof that he "has never made a single cent...

    any good casino operator stocks/asia?

Check this out. This could be an important development for the casino industry in Macau. www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aj_Z1kiGrYVM A word of advice: I would be very cautious about investing in a casino company. Make sure the casino has a quantifiable edge. The odds of the...
