I highly doubt that stops would have saved him... IBKR has "protective" algorithms that will reprice limit orders to "reasonable" levels. Even market order are capped. In such a stock this means you wont be able to get out aftee a volatility halt as they limit your buy order below current market...

With talk of a virus mutation with new outbreak in Bejing and many brokers now forcing liquidation as price moves close to limit up/down i would not be surprised if we hit limit down premarket today.

Take a lot of liquidity when there is a large bid/offer, often at levels x.00, x.25... However if you want even more size than available there you want to lool at algorithms. Ibkr has some, i think there even is a guaranteed vwap order, with up to 10% of avg daily volume...

Premarket starts at 4am. However many brokers allow their customers only to trade after 7,8 or 9am. I think tdameritrade and others start at 7, robinhood at 8 or 9. At 7am some moves in individual stocks occur. I dont think SPY PM high low is that interesting. Futures HL might be better to look at.
