    IB stops change?

Today I had two Sell Stops trigger when the Bid hit my election price, not the Ask? Did they change the algorithm, or was it my imagination? That would be awesome if they did! I also had many fill on my stops, so this makes me wonder?... Great day today!:)

IB stops (new question, I promise)

Remember that IB is backwards when it comes to the Bid and Ask triggering your stop price. For a Sell Stop, it's the ASK not the Bid that must hit your price, and vice-versa for Buy Stops. So this could be another reason your stop seems to get passed by. Reliability has been good the last...

I like the realtime emails. A solution at your end would be to route emails received from ET to their own folder (Rules Wizard in Outlook). I do this with IB's daily statement for instance.

    Bullets & Conversions

Tell me what the difference is between bullets and offsetting long and short positions in the same stock in two different accounts; besides one is legal and one isn't? Isn't the result being able to hit the bid with a sell order and go short w/o the uptick rules? If they don't want stocks...

    can IB go bankrupt?

Def, Is the Prop side all In-house system trades via computer, or an army of individual prop traders using similar systems? I saw the figure of $500M + thrown out for profit last year, was prop trading a very large percentage of that?

    "Common Sense" tax solution

You may save money by going to an accountant. First, you shouldn't be paying self-employment taxes, except in unusual situations, so a professional can steer you in the right direction. Second, a simple partnership created with a canned partnership agreement from a legal softare program...

    Shorting on the NYSE

Just one of the benefits of 60's technology. I've stopped trading NYSE because I make money consistently on the NASD, and with liquid issues I don't have problems with HUMANS mucking up good trades. I still don't believe specialists are any more concerned about making a market than MM's on...

IB and stop limit orders - do they work?

    Trading tax question

3rd party software is the only way I know of to get the information organized correctly for your schedule D from IB. They support Quickbooks and Tradelog is another program I use that allows direct downloads straight into the Schedule D format. There are others but can't think of them. Try...

IB and stop limit orders - do they work?

Toad57. I believe for a short, you must set the election price at least a penny below the Ask for it to trigger. If you set it on or above I don't think it works. I never set a stop that close, but I'm pretty sure that's how it works. So if somebody accidently sets a stop to sell short above...

IB and stop limit orders - do they work?

Logically yes, but IB had some customers stops trigger prematurely and they had to cover the losses, so they changed the stop rules to be more conservative. Most people can't believe it works this way but it does. You just have to get used to it.:) :)

IB and stop limit orders - do they work?

It may be possible to get filled on the ask, but it's not guaranteed, especially in a sinking stock. I try to become the best ask manually when shorting, and it's not very often I get filled unless the stock has high volume, or isn't trending down yet.

IB and stop limit orders - do they work?

IB uses the ASK to trigger the stop, not the Bid for a Sell Stop, so if the Bid drops below $24.99 it won't trigger until the ASK trades twice at or below $24.99. My workaround is to note the spread, then place the Stop at where you'd like it to trigger +/- the spread. So if the spread is...

    Day Trading Systems

Ego. You're saying to a successful trader that they aren't what's important, it's the rules they follow. A real blow to their self-worth. Everybody uses a system, they just don't know it. Just because it seems complex doesn't mean it isn't a system. To say you're not using a system is to...
