    Perl API for FIX Protocol

hi nononsense, I've been having good luck with QuickFIX, its open source and works on all major platforms & OS's: http://www.quickfixengine.org The hard part is partnering with a vendor who publishes their FIX Spec (e.g. required and custom Tags, message sequence detail, etc - they're all...

    Perl API for FIX Protocol

Yea, well...it's not a big deal to compress the data and stream it down the wire at higher rates of speed. The primary issue and the problems that arise as a consequence of using FIX and XML encoding is that native binary data must be convereted into ASCII and then when it's received the ASCII...

    trading eminis with cycles

Ok, I'll take a shot...please be kind :-) If we're talking price change over time, sampled and measured at arbitrary but discrete time-scale interval(s), then what we have is a waveform or signal. The signal can then be analyzed with a variety of indicators and signal processing (analysis)...

    trading eminis with cycles

Hi Tokyo, I think you're on the right track, but wanted to point-out that "most" trend reversal detection or cycle algorithms seem flawless looking back in time, but fail miserably at exactly the point (time series end-point) where you need to execute trades. We can see that in the chart...

Finding programmers for Grey or Black Boxes

In order to get exactly what you need, for a reasonable price, and in the least amount of time - my suggestions are; a) determine your budget and timeframe, b) define your system [Top Level Design Spec.], c) include vendor integration(s) and identify their cost(s) and interface...

    Staying in the trend

Staying in the trend is akin to reading minds and predicting the future, hard to do...imho, best solution is to trade the trend(s)! For example: your chart shows many good intraday opportunities, both long and short.

Any good book on statistics side of system building?

Academic journals and research papers are good (for ideas) but the real deal is knowing & throwing the useless ones and then "implementing" the best of the rest.

    Benefits of trading Prop

Another benefit is risk-management...with a firm, they'll generally have an impartial party monitoring (and controlling) your exposure when you get over-extended or "at risk" in your trading account.

    Benefits of trading Prop

Two good benefits of trading with a firm vs. trading on your own are training and exposure to experienced traders and/or mentors...of course, this will vary by organization, but can be a big-plus if you are just starting out (imo).

    FIX with QuickFixEngine anybody?

Gent's thanks for the info! I'm doing a QuickFIX interface to Nexa and, after meeting Chaz & Partick @ the Trader's Expo in Chicago, plan to integrate RedSky in the near future.

    Good Software

Sashe, We don't get a lot of complaints about ClearView and I'd be interested in learning more about why you feel it's a "piece of crap"... Did you experience "operational problems" (e.g. not know how to use the features)? If so, support and training are only a phone call away and if you...

    Ok Ok what edge

Clearly experience is an 'edge'. And I think most will agree that the following also have a positive impact on attaining and maintaining some form of statistical advantage; a) access to sufficient capital resources, b) reliable direct-access, low cost execution broker c) fast, efficient...

Some Things I Learned About Automated Trading Systems From Writing a Poker Bot

The CNET Glossary has good "Bot" definition: bot robot At its most general level, a bot is any type of automated software. This covers a pretty wide range of programs, but the term applies specifically to two areas: chat and Web-cataloging software. In online chat, bots can be...
