1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

The residence principle makes no sense to me. If I, as an EU citizen will be required to pay taxes if I trade stocks on NYSE, the US is supposed to have all the hassle of collecting taxes to EU? No way this can be legal?

1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

I must have missed something (I'm not American): But what kind if bill is going to be revealed tomorrow? A new try for FTT?

1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

Yes, that's what I meant. I've been trading since the early nineties and I'm still around trading for a living. But this guy is making a case that machines have "stole" their craft and want a FTT because of that. An incredible remark. Just like saying: "I think all the shoe manufacturers should...

1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

"It's not just the regular retail investor that's been marginalized in this rise of the machines -- a generation of traders, mostly of my generation, have been slowly and literally nickeled and dimed out of a career that used to allow their wits and courage to generate a living - now all of...

Did Altucher fail as a trader?

I'm quite pleased with Mr Altuchers book (trade like a hedge fund). Why? The book gave me just one tiny idea about a possible strategy. That strategy has now proven very good over the last 5 years. That's why I buy a lot books. Just one tiny detail can give me some idea about a possible...

1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

Well, Osborne starts the whole talk by saying he is in favour of the tax as long as it's globally. Later he startes (correctly) saying the end user will have to pay it. Is it just talk to please the others he contradicts himself?

1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

This means a lot of regulatory work from US brokers if they want EU traders/customers. If the EU implements this tax, I guess EU citizen can't use US brokers, unless the broker collects the tax. It's the same with US citizens. As far as I'm concerned US citizens can't own foreign stocks (?)...

1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

The FTT will cost a pensioner a lot: I have invested about 300 000 USD specifically for my pension. One half in mutual funds and one half in hedgefunds. If the annual turnover in the fund are 1, the FTT is 0.1% and extra slippage is also .1%, that means .4% per year less in pension (?)...

1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

Doesn't this give incentives for banks to relocate outside EU? What I'm I missing here? Is this Semeta a clown? If I as a EU citizen needs to pay FFT for trading stocks in Hong Kong and the US I will certainly try to do this by establishing companies (or myself) in another place. Or simply...

    Sterling DDE excel crash

Hi again Elvis :) 1. If I have a sheet of let's say 800 symbols and with 3 RTD links each, for example last price, bid price and ask price, it takes about 4 mins to get this sheet up and running. That means Excel "freezes" until everything is loaded. As soon as it is loaded it seems to be...

    Sterling DDE excel crash

Thanks for info, I'm not a computer expert, but for me RTD is inferior to DDE links, but that might be a server issue. When I'm downloading a sheet with for example 500 symbols with 3 RTD links each, it takes several mins to download it. I also have to quit Excel if I want to download it...

    Sterling DDE excel crash

Hi, I'm now trying out RTD with Sterling trader Pro. Is there some kind of magic clue as to get the RTD links in the sheet up and running when I open a sheet with RTD links? What am I missing? I have always used DDE links which automatically opens and start running as soon as I open the...

    Sterling DDE excel crash

Yes, a 3rd party is an option, but rather try Sterlings. Are eSignal good at separating for example open vs. open at NYSE?

Int'l Traders - Trading US markets

Hi Jose, I'm also based in Europe trading mostly the US markets (and also in the same situation as you as regards the move to CBSX for our firm). Can you name some prop companies offering trading in both Europe and the US? Appreciate your feedback.

Int'l Traders - Trading US markets

Hi, Quite a few canadian firms offer decent payout 80-95% and lower commission than your firm. I'm in the same situation as you and thinking of joining a canadian firm. At current canadian accept foreigners, but you never know about the future.

    Eastern European Prop Desks

No. But in general I think these former soviet countries should be great for young traders. Cheap to live and very low taxes (15% in Latvia). I'm not really young anymore, but married here :)
