    So right off the bat I can tell the author has zero understanding of these products, how they work, or their purpose. He is somehow construing divergence in annual returns as "tracking error" when in fact they are doing what they are supposed to, ie tracking the DAILY returns.

    Theoretically, yes. And it used to be meaningful in a real world sense but today I don't think most humans would notice unless you're trading a truly massive (or tiny) order, in a thinly traded instrument...maybe?

    No one can "read" 1 minute charts, at least not to any meaningful degree. I can look at a long term chart (months - years) and tell you whether the trend is up or down. This of course has zero predictive value.

    Same as any other position. Don't be stupid about it when you put it on. Plan the trade and trade the plan. Being short NVDA calls naked into earnings in any size relative to your overall port would count as stupid.
