    77 bank failures this year

Yawn. In 1989, there were over 500 bank failures.

Hong Kong advances, while Shanghai stocks tumble

Depends on your time horizon. The Hang Seng Index was over 30,000 about two years ago. It is now around 21,000. Since then earnings have grown considerably, so you could argue that Chinese stocks are dirt cheap now relative to 2007 pricing.

    Hang Seng

The HangSeng Express just blew past 20,000. Up over 5,000 since my original post in April. But still well below all time high. Should be ready to take a rest for awhile though.

    Nat Spreads

Can you explain to a layman why the V-X spread is so wide (around 0.70). Is that due to seasonal factors?

    Hang Seng

One month later, Hang Seng near 17000. Pretty nice dead cat bounce :D

    Series 7 Study Material

I recently passed the series 7 with over a 90 using the Pass Perfect study material. The practice exams are similar to or harder than the actual exam. If you can pass the practice tests you are almost certain to pass the Series 7 exam. The bundle retails for $350, but I will sell it for...

Madoff Clawback Nightmare on Wall St,

There were no clawbacks for Enron, and will not be any for the Satyam fraud. Anyone who shorted these stocks or sold when then were high priced keep all of their profits. Why are they even being considered for the Madoff scandal? Were there any clawbacks 90 years ago after the Ponzi scandal?

Jim Simons has even steadier profits than Madoff, another Ponzi?

Rentech owned over 1 million shares of Satyam :D

    Opening Orders - 2009

I've been trading opening orders for about a month now with decent results, but I want to start scaling up and try to take things to the next level. Until now I've just used pre-market prices and imbalances as a filter to exclude some stocks, but haven't used them to tweak the buy and sell...

    Opening Orders - 2009

VinMan- when you quote the P&L per share are you counting both the entry and exit trades? In other words, let's say you make $100 gross profit by shorting 1,000 shares. If you include covering the short, the total shares traded are 2,000. Would that be +5 cents per share? (100 / 2000)

Massage Parlor was busy as hell today. Bullish sign?

Massages are now covered under many health insurance plans, and even under Medicare in some cases. That's why the country is going bankrupt.

Do you allow odd lot quantities in your orders, or do you always round to the nearest hundred shares?

Lescor- Wasn't CPB an OPG buy today? Congrats, you did a great job in trading out of it for a profit.

S&P up 20% from November 21=What does it mean?

When a market drops 50%, you need a 100% gain just to breakeven, so a 20% gain is only a one fifth retracement/ After a "normal" drop of 20%, a 20% gain is a one half retracement, which is significant. But for this bear market, we need a 50% gain off the lows to be meaningful.

Vikrit cares more about protecting the bonus pool than shareholders. He should be replaced.

Citigroup Lobbying SEC to Reinstate Short Selling Ban....Breaking

Citi got 25 billion in bailout money. Why don't they just use 4 billion to buy back a billion shares of stock? That would cause a huge short squeeze.

Series 7 Pass Perfect bundle for sale

I purchased the PassPerfect bundle about four months ago, and just passed the series 7 exam with a 94. I found their practice exams were harder than the actual exam. I was mainly getting about 80 on the “difficult” practice exams. So if you can take enough of the practice exams you are...

    Want To Share

Many closed end funds have been hit because they are forced to liquidate some inventory at fire sale prices when their leverage factor exceeds 33 percent. But some of the CEF discounts are over 50 percent now and more than compensate for this. Even many unleveraged CEF's have very high...
