    ES Points? Long-Term Average? VOTE!

Forgive me for being skeptical, but we are now approaching 80% profitable traders in this poll, and 28% who say they make, on average, over 4.5 pts/day/contract day-trading the e-minis. Would some of you (especially the 4.5+ pts./day people) be willing to tell us who you are and give us a...

    ES Points? Long-Term Average? VOTE!

What's wrong with this picture? According to this poll, 75% of the respondents are profitable traders. Hmm.

    Shall we choose a portfolio???????????

I use a modified version of the CANSLIM method, along with some basic T/A to find stocks for long term positions (several months or more).

    2nd Income

bobcathy, you forgot another reason many traders may want to have a second job: to finance their "education" in trading! :p :p :p

    2nd Income

That's cool, bobcathy. I'm not trying to criticize anyone, but it just seems to me from reading various posts that a lot of people try to jump into trading full time right off the bat, thinking that within six months or a year they're going to be earning a living off of a $10,000 account...

    I see wedge

FWIW, I'm following the e-mini S&P and I'm seeing a different wedge. Based on the link NihabaAshi posted: http://www.chartpatterns.com/wedges.htm this one should be bullish (a descending wedge in an uptrend). It will be interesting to see what happens, since there seem to be conflicting...

    Got any ideas?

I agree. I was being (just a little bit) facetious with my comment above, but I think m_c_98 has it right - you should be watching higher time frames for support/resistance levels and use them as logical places to take profits on your positions.

    Got any ideas?

Flip a coin. Heads, it's a good signal. Tails, it's bad.

Yesterday's Hi-Lo range on the ES: a favor

Just a thought...if you're interested in following daily ranges, it's very easy to create a study that calculates each day's high-low value and display it as a histogram beneath the chart. That makes it easier to find the smallest range days of a given time period and also see what the most...

LONGEVITY: Staying alive as a trader

I have an annual stop-loss amount. If I lose x dollars trading for the year, I stop. It helps to keep me in line.

    Johnny Rotten, Americanized

bdixon619 and fasterpussycat, I've asked the administrator to change the following sentence: My hat is off to those that can do it, but I think that 99% of the people on this board that say they make money trading (as well as the "educators") are full of crap. to read: My hat is...

    Johnny Rotten, Americanized

lol Bruce. But that was my point - you can't pick and choose, because then you are gambling, but even the so called system traders will tell you that a particular system will only work at certain times, which puts them in the position of having to guess when to use it and/or determine if it...

Let's talk about our returns. Got any?

Well it took about six months to get the hang of things (lost about 5k), but now I'm averaging about 10% a month on my 50k account. Not getting rich, but it pays the bills.

    Johnny Rotten, Americanized

Well, I've been trading over ten years now and my experience has proven to me that it is impossible to "guess" which ones will work and which ones won't. My hat is off to those that can do it, but I think that 80-90% of the people on this board that say they make money trading (as well as the...

    Johnny Rotten, Americanized

So how does one decide which entries are "good" and which are "bad"? This is the fatal flaw that I've found with all methodologies including "mechanical" systems. Even so called mechanical traders will eventually admit that their systems won't always make money if you press them enough...

    Let's get real about returns

If it's a paper-trading world cup, you don't have to do any self-evaluation. Just trade with huge size and if you're lucky, you'll win. If not, you can just enter the next one and try again.

    Let's get real about returns

Sorry dude. I said I made over 5 pts a day on that one just because I was disgusted with all the BS on this board. I don't even daytrade the e-mini's anymore - just buy and hold.
