    Greed and Fear

If you get stopped out of your position it seems your indicator will show even a more extreme level of greed or fear. WOuldn't you then want to enter the same position again? Or do you wait until it moves into the "neutral range" and then gives another signal? Thanks

    Thoughts on money management.

A perfect hedge would be to close out your position, sell your 1 10yr. The point of hedging is to take away risk, a perfect hedge would take away all your risk. The point of trading is to take on risk in order to make profits, a traded doesn't want to be hedged he wants to be on the right...

Volatility or Annualized Returns - What's More Important

Sortino: measures returns versus downside volatility, some funds have very volatile returns, but they are mostly upwardly (is that a word) volatile, which is a good thing. Sortino is same as sharpe but only measures downside volatility. Max drawdown I would accept for 40%+ returns? 25%...

Volatility or Annualized Returns - What's More Important

Sharpe ratio is the metric to use, it captures returns and volatilty, 2 funds with the exact same strategy but different leverage, should have the same sharpe ratio. (One earns twice as much but is twice as volatile.)

    Thoughts on money management.

If you are long the 10yr and short the 30yr you are not "freezing" your loss, your 10 yr position and 30yr position will still make/loss money. You are using two correlated instruments, but the 30yr is more volatile. After entering you new position if the 10yrs and 30 yrs go up you will lose...

    New Guy Question/Clarification

Once all the sellers are out there is no place for the price to go but up. Then you have all the weak hands chasing the price up as they try to get back on the winning side. (See Ripley) Just kidding 5yr

Just realized we wasted money fighting cold war

Like I said most americans are ignorant and this causes them to make poor decisions. BUsh suddenly has a bad approval rating because the war in Iraq is taking too long and he supports free markets? Who could have imagined this scenario? One of Bush's main campain points is that he is a free...

    SIRI around 5.65

Please excuse the delayed reply, but the reason sirius didn't move on this "news" was because they announced it over a year ago, everyone knew it was coming and it was already reflected in the stock price.

Just realized we wasted money fighting cold war

From a thread you started. Looks like you support the leaders that "rely on religious fanaticism;" you have, in fact, bought into this idea, and you may not realize it. Just because someone is Muslim doesn't make them a terrorist.

Just realized we wasted money fighting cold war

I am not sure on this, but I am assuming that we have ports in the UAE, I know we have military bases, which is worse. How hypocritical would it be for us to block them? They are one of our biggest Allies in the Middle East, it would be very dumb for our government not to let this deal through...

Would the public be warned of Impending Crash in Big Brokers and Banks or just the in

. Yes, the government would bail out the big banks if the risk was great enough. This includes Merrill Lynch, Goldman Sachs and in a crisis the FOMC (Federal Open Market Committee) would be sure to meet and be likely to drastically reduce the discount rate. It has happened before and I am...

Choosing a hegde fund to invest

If this task were given to me I would use the sharpe ratio. It provides the "risk adjusted return," two funds with the exact same strategy but different levels of risk will have the same sharpe ratio even though one could have much higher returns. Definitely factor in length of track record...

What the hell should I do now?

You should create a diversified porfolio for yourself or if this is too hard hire someone to do it for you. You can adjust the allocations to different sectors according to your beliefs, at this point you would be less heavily wieghted in US stocks. You don't have a high enough net worth to...
