    Great entries, horrible exits

Nitro, bear with me, I am relatively ignorant when it comes to many strategies (I am a stock trader only) so forgive me if my comments rub you the wrong way. The price action is almost always random. When we enter into the market, (not as hedgers or arbitrageurs but as speculators) we do so...

    Top Books for Day Trading

This is a great link I found (I think here at ET): http://www.trading-naked.com/Articles_and_Reprints.htm Does anyone have a link to "Pit Bull" (Marty Schwartz) in pdf? Thanks, Mike

    Great entries, horrible exits

Despite my "advice" I am always battling this internal "not letting winners run" demon. I am always trying to re-evaluate a winner and look for a great exit. This costs me money more often than not. Two examples are from the last two days. CTTY yesterday and ISPH today. Both of these stocks I...

    Great entries, horrible exits

Nitro, I am not comfortable with the idea that once in a trade - the price action is random, i.e. it will either hit your stop first or get to your profit target (I think this is the gist of what you are saying). The trades I look for are very specific and I choose these type of trades for...

Are Level II really needed today?

If by L2 you also mean the inclusion of time and sales then I strongly believe you need L2 (or instant T&S). Tape reading is essential no matter how you trade IMO. Mike

    Great entries, horrible exits

I asked that question to you because I ask that question to myself before entering any trade. It allows me to immediately identify and plan a reaction to any possible future behaviour before I enter. I know before hand what it takes, price-wise to either prove my entry right or wrong. Having...

Why some government advisors don't like day traders

Could you imagine a world where academic ideas actually worked in the markets?? It is a self defeating principle - if there ever was an academically tested, working and accepted solution - everyone would eventually find out that solution and the game would change again, and again, and...

    Great entries, horrible exits

Are you able to identify what type of trade it will be before hand? If it is a trend then identify acceptable retrace levels. If it is range S/R based then identify inflections and position exits around those infections/breaks... Those are the two types of trade I really focus on...

    Trader P/L 2005

mksumny, DT, mschey, lescor and others here have shown an inate ability and skill to extract serious money from their respective markets. I respect this no matter the strategy used - trust me, if I could carry hundreds of thousands of shares of a 2-3 dollar stock and pull 5k+ a day... WELL...

    When has ET become idiot-free?

Baron, I had a thread removed from the trading forum and placed in the Chit Chat forum. I suspect a moderator found my topic idiotic and/or irrelevant. I have not recieved any response as to the exact reasons... Thanks, Mike...

    We've all heard this before...

This sounds like a sure way to pay your broker a good deal of money... Call me ignorant but I would strongly argue that the LESS you trade at the beginning the BETTER. Look, you are fighting commissions on a very steep learning curve. If you make any profitable trades during the day the...

    Hunting & gathering mindsets

I can see the analogy when hunting for entries. But, staying in the trade and managing the position, well, that's where I think the reptilian part of our brains take over. This is the part of the brain that makes you want to cut the winner short, IMO an ingrained emotional response: get what...

    trading guru

Any ideas on why ET decided to move my thread outta here?? I was hoping for a better dialogue. Maybe the administration doesn't like to admit that "a sucker is born every minute":)

    Huge Losses

Exactly, how bout a breakeven stop or a take profit stop? Key to survival IMO. Never change a stop LOSS...

Walking the walk (Blotter Thread Continued)

Why are people taking this so seriously? Does it matter? I like to see what others are doing and I like to see what stocks others are trading. personally, I don't have anything interesting to post on most days, I breakeven a lot and sometimes I get a 4 figure day. Its nothing special but...

Have a forced money management plan

What a concept!! Does it really come down to 90% of the population not having any real will power or discipline? 1. People who lack discipline help my bottom line (panic selling and impulsive buying produce stronger moves). More panic and more deperation = greater volatility IMO. Don't...

Been a slow week of mostly churning for me. Got a nice move on AGN today and still holding an ADBE short.

Walking the walk (Blotter Thread Continued)

Good start. I would stay away from GOOG and RIMM though, those are not for the inexperienced. I would start out on slow movers with decent trends. What are your entry conditions? What is your maximum trade frequency per day? (Avoid overtrading) What market conditions favor your...

Walking the walk (Blotter Thread Continued)

Still trading relatively small (stepped up to 300 share orders since I've been on a bit of a win streak lately). Finally got a move on RIMM - been stopped out by it 3x in a row until today. Realized a partial loss on TIVO from about 2 weeks ago. Looks like it may keep moving up but I'm gonna...
