Impossible to find a real pro with a real edge as a mentor?

You get what you pay for. Anybody willing to tell you about their winning system for $500 doesn't have a system worth paying for.

How do Hedge Funds pay 15% tax?

Correct me if I'm wrong.... They are counting their 20% compensation as long term capital gains, thus the 15% rate. But aren't the majority of hedge fund gains short-term, thus having to pay typical income tax on those gains? What is the trick?

How do Hedge Funds pay 15% tax?

In the hearrings, they said that the Hedge Fund guys are only paying 15% income tax. Could somebody explain exactly how this is? (I'm not complaining, I think everybody should have a lower tax rate, I'm just trying to figure out what the true story is)

    East Coast vs. West Coast

I know nothing about those specifics. But it seems to me that trading on the West Coast can be troublesome since work starts so early.

"In 2015, Mr. Martinez said, his monthly payments will be $12,000 a month."

A couple points: There is a difference between percent of homes in an area underwater, and the degree of how far homes are underwater. I am fairly knowledgeable about the Las Vegas market. It mentions that 80 some % of homes in 89178 (nice area of Las Vegas) are underwater. But the...

Taking 103K to 1.2million by Year End 2008

This is an enjoyable journal to read and you clearly have a great understanding of what you're doing. But I'm wondering, even if you are positive expectation, doesn't the volatility give you a significant risk of ruin? Take blackjack. You may be an expert card counter, and you may have...

    Pair Trading Strategy Journal

I was wondering. Say you went short Volkswagen in a pair, and were short when it skyrocketed recently. With a typical account percentage. What kind of account damage would that have done?

    Timing QQQQ

Can you please explain where you get your prices from? Looking at your summarized history, you are not using the closing prices. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but you could simply wait for an opportune time, even after QQQQ has already closed, then come on here and make up an opportune...

    Pair Trading Strategy Journal

Your journal is my favorite. 1. But I am wondering, considering that your strategy may actually be successful and not just random noise, do you have any second thoughts about posting so much detail about what you're doing? If too many people start replicating your actions, it will cut...

Unless you can watch your stock holding decline by 50% without becoming panic-stricke

I'm one of those people who has been indoctrinated in the buy and hold idea. But recently I have had my eyes open to new ideas. Could you elaborate on what you mean by saying that stock index futures killed buy and hold? Is it something to do with matching the market upside while limiting...

Former skeptic, 200k savings, taking active trading seriously

I've long belived in efficient markets and I thought it was proven case-closed that active trading was a suckers game; like alchemists trying to make gold. In the carnage of this past month, I came across a situation that appeared to be a free lunch in the market that shouldn't have been...
