Sam's Day Trading Log (With Charts)

This has happened long b/4 HFT. I dont know if HFt has made it worse It has to do more with "shaking out weak hands" I think. Once a stock makes a move, it sometimes bounces around (creates fakes).. Unfortunately, I dont think there is a way to safely avoid this.. One method is to let the...

Sam's Day Trading Log (With Charts)

I like your overall idea, but I think you will get even better when you dial in your stops and entries. Notice that you are entering and getting stiopped out alot miday in this example while the market is moving sideways b/w the support/resistance level. You cant have your stops so close in...

    High Probability Setups

Fair enough. Pullback implies trend or direction though. How do you find the direction? or do you? A stock can be drifting horizontally, dead, and still make a signal. Or do you not look for direction?

    High Probability Setups

+1 I like this. In fact I came up with an indicator similar to this for pullbacks from HH, and LL's based on % from high, rather than touching a band, but the concept is similar... (the concept was to find scalping opportunities/pullbacks) but also... I also wanted to add in a...

    Series 7

Isnt "parking" when you already have a license, and are worried about it expiring (2 years from last day of employment/affiliation with a firm)? THe idea is you become affiliated with a firm in the short term, in order to reset the clock, but really arent involved with...

    ADD/ADHD traders

Side effects depend on the drug I am sure. I havent heard of any serious ones for the common ADD meds. I think Doctors just put you on something else if you have any of the common ones.. As far as building a tolerance, I think Ritalin and Adderall (the stimulants) are the only ones where this...

What stock daytraders trade? (stock, ETF, SSFs)

well not automated per se. For example: criteria: -average 30 day volume > 1,000,000 daily shares - price > $5 - currently trading 200% normal volume - near 52 week high it might spit out 10 candidates.. Then you use discretionary trading to make decisions. the filter just alerts...

    A 70k bet that I can't make a 50% gain in 2009

Puddles, Can you go over your rules you are using for entries? By looking at your chart, I am not seeing any obvious setups.

What stock daytraders trade? (stock, ETF, SSFs)

you might also want to include the option of 500+ stocks run through a filter, trading whatever the filter spits out for those given parameters.

    ADD/ADHD traders

I think there are shades of grey, and the degree of ADD changes with the person. Many people with it are very intelligent, and successfull, and have managed almost subconciously to develop a system for managing their life, thus fly under the radar.. Some dont, and really struggle. SOme are...

    ADD/ADHD traders

+1 THis is the key for me. People with ADD/ADHD have the tendency to be able to excel at things they find an interest in. Almost in an obsessive way. Especially if you are the type of trader who multitasks.. I worked as a market maker and excelled at it. I had to manage order flow...

    About Quantitative Equity Investing

I agree to a certain extent, but I also think that the "small guy" can find more opportunites amongst less liquid issues, that they can get opportunites from. In other words, more opportunites exist b/c scalability issues for those of us who dont have to move such large quantities around.

Grinding it out, day after day

NOt to turn this into a RTM thread, but I keep reading this, along with "sharply increased volatility." Wouldnt the whole point be to avoid unusual (abnormal moves) in the stocks? I thought trying to use statistics or another method in a sideways/uneventful/rangebound (read: boring) market...

    Pictures of your trading stations

Since you are running 2 cards per machinel, i was curious what kind of power supply you are running in each computer? Would an 850watt be enough?

    Webbased Chart pattern scanner?

I love stockfetcher. However I use it for other scans (statistics, etc). I have found that their chart pattern scans pull up poor forming patterns. Maybe I need to rexamine the scans again and tweek them.

    Webbased Chart pattern scanner?

Does anyone know of a decent and relatively cheap website that updates various daily chart patterns? I used one along time ago, but when I changed style of trading, I stopped subscribing, and forgot the name. I am basically looking for a site that shows stocks that have formed H&S, wedges...

Chicago Traders: Student Looking For Internship/Runner/Assistant Postion

The basic problem is that computers have replaced traditional "traders." This is even true on the NYSE relative to what it used to be.. And although you might see a crowded futures pit on TV, they will be replaced eventually, so you are really looking to get into a line of work that is...

Chicago Traders: Student Looking For Internship/Runner/Assistant Postion

Trading jobs are very rare these days. Network through friends/family to get an entry level hedgefund job... "runner" traditional sellside jobs are dinosaurs awating extinction. Have been progressivley for the last 5-10 years.. Only real jobs are "Quant" or programming/alogithmic...

    How to Learn Price Action

When you say you are using the low stoch reading for the ES, is the timeframe different than the instrument you are trading? ie. 30 min stoch chart, vs 4 minute stock chart? or vice versa?
