Best City for a Starting Daytrader....

Althoug I think books are excellent and a necessity for getting a good background, they will give you a false sense of security when you begin trading. It is important to understand the principles they discuss: money mgy, charting, risk/reward, etc, but the books are simplistic and the examples...

    Trading equities vs. ES/NQ'S

Before I get blasted for a asking a basic question, I have done searches on this, and havent really found an answer, so any help would be greatly appreciated. From what everyone is saying, futures trading seems like a no brainer vs trading stocks in this environment. 1. no slippage due to...

Do You Listen To The News While Trading?

I listen only for things to catch me off guard and go against any positions I currently have. Otherwise, the commentators drive me nuts with their "insight". The only useful people I listen to are traders on the floor (but by the tiime they are interviewed it is old news) or technicians...

    Prop Firms That Care?

I think the environment is different in a market maker such as SLK (who has been shut down for 3 months due to consolidation w/GS) b/c firms who pay you $$ or give you a draw have more to lose than a firm where you supply your own $$. Anyway, I heard that only places to offer salary is...

    hedge fund blow up !

I have always been under the impression that hedge funds were run by experienced wall street veterans with a long track record fo success for the most part. With all the layoffs on wallstreet in the last 1 1/2 years, and more to come, I have heard of a bunch of traders lately getting together...

Is DayTrading Stocks Even Worth it Anymore?

Thanks for your reply. I am adjusting to the "information overload" from trying to find opportunities in the NASDAQ universe. I have multiple Level II's set up, as well as multiple charts, and am trying a trial memebrship for a technical analysis morning e:mail that send me possible...

Is DayTrading Stocks Even Worth it Anymore?

[. The rest of the time I look for relative strength or weakness out of a list of about 75 stocks which I follow closely. I go home flat every night. The most important thing to remember is that you only need 4-5 good days a month to make a living, as long as you stay out of trouble the rest...

    Who's got the best training?

I doubt they were bad traders, it is just the trading environment these days.... ECN'S are replacing people (market makers) and why should a customer pay .05 /share vs. .01/share. It makes no sense. If market making is even around in 4 years, Id be very surprised. Even our top traders...

    Who's got the best training?

I can give a little insight b/c I worked at a mm (wholesaler) b/4 our main bank shut us down last summer... As far as training, it is very on-desk oriented. In the classroom (1/2 of the training 1/2 on desk ) they touch upon charting basics, the software used, the rules of order handling, and...
