    ES Tape Reading 101

...sorry, I didn't intend a digression. But we got Market Man's definitive opinion on how to relieve stress while trading. Continuing with your original post, have you been trading the approach you described? How about backtesting it? I thought once about that, but it doesn't appear to be...

...thanks for the straight dope. You de Ansa Man. Now answer this, smarty: "What do women want?"

    ES Tape Reading 101

...my understanding is that the big boys can elect not to have their orders shown on GLOBEX. I do not know this from research, just what I was told. Perhaps some one in the know will be kind enough to correct me if this is wrong. Makes no difference to me, as I am functionally illiterate...

    ...no, hidden orders on Globex.

    ES Tape Reading 101

...how do you square all this with the fact that there can be hidden orders?

    trading the afternoon

...do you have a particular issue in mind when you think of this setup? IMO, trading is more fetishistic than sex (we tend to get off better on the same thing every time), which is why I asked. Thanks. - Mike

    trading the afternoon

...being a morning person I am having trouble visualizing this. Do you expect continuation or reversal when the noon is the high/low of the day? Easy enough to backtest, it sounds like. Thanks. - Mike

what was allowed to happen today...

..but I love this. Would you guys sign a release to me for my new idea for a daytime soap? It's called "The Day Traders": "As the heated debate grew and splilled over the boundaries of ET, traders worldwide began to take sides. 'I'll prove my man is right with big bucks behind me.' 'The smart...

What Happened to the 15-20 point range days?

...thanks for the revision. We could always scalp ticks!

What Happened to the 15-20 point range days?

...you can calculate the total fractal range, but at some fractal level it gets absurd because of commish and slippage.

What Happened to the 15-20 point range days?

...check the arithmetic. Assuming your numbers are right, and assuming you could capture the entire range, and ignoring the commissions on the number of trades it would take you to do it, the return on the initial intraday margin is: ES: $725/$1781 = 40.7% NQ: $532/$1125 = 47%

what was allowed to happen today...

...well said. We have held this thread for ransom long enough. We gave it enough hits (even if they were irrelevant) to help it take off if it was going to. I'm signing off. Will see you elsewhere.

What Happened to the 15-20 point range days?

...come to NQ. It pays better than ES on an ROI basis. Liquidity isn't as good, but it's good enough.

what was allowed to happen today...

...I didn't try to follow everything because I had to keep an eye on my own charts, but speaking as a bored breakout artist, he does (or says he does) what I want to do: play that violin of indecision until the real morning move is made. What I thought he was saying matched the notional system I...

A good & complete TA book

...I don't have any Wyckoff because I don't know which of the several monographs to buy. There are those under his name and under the pseudonym. Which do you recommend? Thanks.

A good & complete TA book

...that depends on what you mean by introductory. It is not an introductory TA book, but it is an introductory book on mechanical system development and trading. I'm working my way through all of the ones that get good reviews on Amazon. The Cliff's notes version of K & McC is that nothing works...

A good & complete TA book

...too true. BTW, the Velez rec was meant as a joke to rile anybody up. There is a lot of good stuff in Katz and McCormick, which I am still reading, on the performance of neural nets and genetic algorithms. Not TA but interesting.

A good & complete TA book

...have none of you TA mavens recommended the excellent book by Velez and Capra?

A good & complete TA book

...my apologies also. I was not prepared for good Southern humor. Once in a great books discussion someone cried out in agony "This discussion is fruitless!" From the other end of the room came the reply (from a cajun) "On the contrary, I think it is full of fruit!" You must learn that if you...
