    Zero-sum vs. positive sum trading

What is the airlines cost basis? It's true that derivatives can create value . . . but I'm not looking at the economic value. By definition, every derivative transaction has a counterparty that is going to pay up.

    Zero-sum vs. positive sum trading

Presumably any non-leveraged strategy has no cost of funds other than opportunity cost and transaction costs. Again, with a rising stock, even after transaction costs it's possible for every participant to be a winner.

    Zero-sum vs. positive sum trading

My opening post wasn't clear . . . I agree that the equity markets are positive-sum . . . with a rising stock, every buyer can theoretically sell for more than he paid. However, in every options or derivative transaction there is a winner and a loser, no exceptions. I'm not looking at...

    Zero-sum vs. positive sum trading

If you walked into a casino and were told that on the left, everybody can leave the table a winner, and on the right, somebody always has to lose and often nobody wins but the dealer, you'd be crazy to go the right, correct? Then why do traders trade futures and options, which are zero-sum...

What sort of trader are you?

Ok, it looks like everybody is either a position or day trader, excepting the tradebots and options traders. I guess I'm more interested in what sort of day or position traders are out there. Here's the classifications, let me know if it's too broad or narrow: breakout buy on...

Is it possible to trade this system?

I've had Cooltrade bookmarked for a while, but it looked they went out of business. The news feed is stopped out at 3-18-08. I'll have to check it out again. "Very seldom do I ever get stopped out." I'm not interested in doing alot of trading. The whole point of automating my very simple...

Is it possible to trade this system?

I've thought about that re shorts, that they fall faster. If you read about any big trader, none of them made much of their money shorting. The other problem with shorting is that you get less long as the postion goes with you, and get longer as it goes against you. You could always pyramid the...

Is it possible to trade this system?

Thanks for the replies. After poking around the AMTD strategy desk, I found it does most of what I want. I can dump my symbols in and it will automate the orders and trailing stop. I'll see how that works. I can't use ATR to modify position size, but now that I think about it, that isn't as...

Is it possible to trade this system?

Would it be possible to a) cut and paste a whole bunch of stock symbols into a system then b) set a trade to trigger at the new high (meaning that I don't have to put in my buy stop for every symbol) and then c) the trade gets executed if daily volume (to that point in the trading day) is some...
