Today i got screwed on a bad tick on nyse and broker said tough crap

The rules require a broker to 'try' and get the best prevailing price (NBBO) but the regulators do not enforce it. I have never heard of a 5% bad tick on an active stock. There is a 5% allowed on markups/markdowns if the broker is acting as a dealer but he has to meet certain conditions...

SPY vrs ES (sub penny) Question

I took the Series 7 course in the mid-70's from the New York Institue of Finance. Their textbook, Work of the Securities Industry, copyrighted in 1973 has information on order queue in Chapter 7, pages 9-12. The P's are: Priority (time), Parity (ability to fulfill), and Precedence (size). The...

SPY vrs ES (sub penny) Question

Since you are new to equities trading you probably need to be aware of the three P's of equities trading. A majority of traders who have been trading for years, and most of the retail stockbrokers, do not know of this procedural method of order placement in the queue. The P's are: p=price...

You can trade as many contracts as you have money for initial margin. But before you start trading, it appears, you need to know about the markets. At least, learn about money management and overtrading.

    License Question

There are new laws and regulation that went into effect this week. It appears that cash forex market dealers have new guidelines. I do not trade forex so I can not provide information concerning licenses. A RIA would be registered with the SEC and CTA with the NFA. Your employer should be able...

Intraday margin is at the discretion of your broker. All of them can have a different requirement for intraday. The initial margin is all you deposit with the broker. You do not need the value of the contract deposited. That is your leverage. Using your example, your leverage would be $55,000...

    USA's Economic Freedom Rating

In my opinion, taxes do affect WHERE manufacturing is done. Companies are now moving production off-shore for lower taxes and less regulation. Manufacturing in the USA is on a steady decline due to competition from imports and outsourcing of jobs for cheaper labor cost. The reduction in the...

SPY vrs ES (sub penny) Question

Sub-penny trading is only available for insiders unless your broker executes your order away from the exchanges. Internalization is common for equities trading. Penny increments trading cannot be placed by the public. This is the sole domain of the insiders. Fragmentation of trading instead of a...

    USA's Economic Freedom Rating

I posted the article for discussion. The statistics are not from Stossel but from the Heritage Foundation's Center for Data Analysis, which compiles the index with The Wall Street Journal. It is their interpretation of the study.

    USA's Economic Freedom Rating

America's economic freedom isn't looking so good By: John Stossel Examiner Columnist In the 2010 Index of Economic Freedom, the ranking of the United States has been lowered to eighth out of 179 nations -- behind Canada! A year ago, it ranked sixth, ahead of Canada. Don't say...

October 11, 2010 Thomas Peterffy Speech at the World Federation of Exchanges

I think he is referring to all brokers in general whether online or not. Selling of order flow has been a common practice for several years. For brokers like IB that claims to beat the NBBO, most of the time by sub-pennies, where are they transacting their trades? It cannot be on an 'open'...

    Cheaper Futures contract

Both comments are correct but the OP wanted to know the contracts with ticks under $5. The exchanges will let you know the 'volatility' of a contract by the required margin.

    Cheaper Futures contract

There are several on the NYMEX. Heating Oil, Unlead Gas and propane has $4.20 ticks. Other contracts with $5 tick values are palladium and platinum. The Mini Dow(YM) has a $5 tick value and trade on CME/CBOT electronic platform.

This Ain't Gonna Be Good.....CBS 60 Minutes This Sunday

The insiders are going to be okay. They have been playing this con game long enough to know how to not let the HFT traders beat them at their own game. The market makers and specialists can still control the market but they have to be careful to not trigger the HFT traders buys and sells orders...

This Ain't Gonna Be Good.....CBS 60 Minutes This Sunday

The HFT traders are only doing to the market what the market makers and specialists have been doing since the beginning of trading. Buying low and selling high. The public buys high and sells low. The HFT traders are only doing it in much larger volumes and preventing the insiders from running...

    Best trading platform for spreads

Thanks Local for your reply. I am familiar with CTS. I use to have an account with Cunningham. It is a decent trading platform. It is lacking in reporting open interest and being able to place simultaneous trades. But I downloaded a simulator, since it had a while since I had used it, from...
