    LEAP Strike Selection

Agreed, at some point one must truly weigh the benefits and drawbacks of simply purchasing the underlying as opposed to buying OTM LEAP options with their vega risk but increased leverage vis a vis deep ITM options or the actual underlying.

Thanks for pointing out that feature :)

    newbie question

Good call, though I guess for exotic currency pairs (i.e. EUR/HKD or USD/SGD) or even crosses such as EUR/GBP that's not an option. Nonetheless thanks for the tip :)

    Exchange Traded Exotics

Hey People, Was curious if anyone could direct me to some exchange traded exotics? I know CBOE does have offer binary (aka digital) options on the SPX with a fixed payout at $1 (look up symbol BSZ), but wondered if any other existed? Thinkorswim used to let people trade those binaries but...

    newbie question

Speaking of FX options Martinghoul, do you know if there are any avenues in which a retail trader can get access to FX options which are exchange traded? Not the usual BS ones that are pinned to a currency index instituted by ISE or Nasdaq/PHLX where the liquidity is practically nonexistent?

    LEAP Strike Selection

Here's my problem though spindr0, I have no idea when the market will realize the VALUE in the underlying? I do know it will be within some point the lifetime of the LEAP but large uncertainty looms over as to when that event would take place? Regarding the sell vol part, yeah I could do some...

    Vix Down 21.90-22

Kinda agree on McMillan. BTW I did not know he's now growing a stash definitely bringing back the 70s creeper look.

    LEAP Strike Selection

Hey Everyone, I'm wondering if there exists a certain way to assess the best strike to select when purchasing 1.5-2 year out LEAP contracts and using the options for pure leverage and max return? Of course if I take any arbitrary dollar amount (i.e. $10K) and say how many contracts can I...

    Nflx

NFLX offers an amazing service at an attractive price for movielovers. However, their current stock price is ridiculous given the growth outlook and actual FCF generation. Of course the saying remains true that "the market can stay irrational longer than you remain solvent" so this is simply a...

    CL Redux

No doubt I agree that markets right now are extremely volatile with some odd tendencies in reaction to the news. However, if you take a look at what others are saying in the energy futures forum on elitetrader when discussing CL calendar spread trading (i.e. Sell July/Buy August) they almost...

    CL Redux

Hey Jorge, Thanks for the advice regarding futures position management. If you believe I am severely undercapitalized (which probably is a correct assertion) what do you suggest is a comfortable level of capital to possess in futures trading such that I'm not taking on massive amounts of...

    CL Redux

You have no idea how pissed I am that I bought back at 75.60 only to see the damn thing take such a beating by the end of day *sigh*. Moral of the story? Stick to your guns and believe in your theis? Or use tighter stops instead?

    CL Redux

Well my goal is to (typically) go flat at the end of the day and if i were truly investing I would probably read up a LOT more on the fundamental analysis associated with crude (i.e. assessing inventories, looking at certain spreads between months, etc.) My goal (at least when trading CL) is to...

    CL Redux

Just started getting into futures. Either I'm an idiot or extremely ballsy, but when I see you folks setting up stops at 10 cents how do you manage to even stay in a trade for longer than 3-5 minutes? Perhaps I'm asking to get blown out (I did this weekend..was up $1200 on Thursday only to...

IB vs Thinkorwim - Options Trade Executions

As a TOS customer I would say my needs are being met with their current offering of analytics, commission rates, and executions. My key gripe with TOS remains how their system became a POS on May 6 a day when you needed a responsive trading platform most. Unfortunately it took roughly 15-20...

Getting TOS like Real Time Data in IB

Hey folks, I'm considering opening up an IB account and transferring some of my capital from my existing TOS account due to IB's competitive commission rates and far more flexible portfolio margin (which I plan to use in the future when I'm more knowledgeable about options trading). After...

    Day Trading Options

If you're daytrading options (which I suppose is feasible but not something I would really do as you can get killed in slippage) commissions add up fast. You may want to renegotiate that rate and complain that with Optionshouse you can get 5 contracts/5 bucks (hey every penny helps). Once you...

Thanks everyone for shedding some light on the matter :)

    Cash vs. Non Cash Indices

Hey all, I read somewhere that novice option traders if they want to do indicies they're initially better off using non cash indicies on vertical spreads. If on you're short (call or put) position you're exercised (that night) and prior to the market opening some catastrophic event occurs and...

    what is islamic finance?

I think Nattdog is on point for the most part. Based upon what I read at this division of HSBC which caters to Islamic finance (HSBC Amanah) I got the impression that interest was NOT charged and just a higher principle with no fluctuation in monthly payments. I guess variable rate mortgages are...
