Have the system - need the capital ! Looking for a fund or job

Barrons had a story last year about a guy with a couple of decades experience and 50+ million AUM who couldn't get to the next level because of the institutionalization of the hedge fund industry. It's no longer 2 guys with a Bloomberg terminal type of business. Leeb, your naivite is...

Laptop overheating - what to do?

I think your laptop is toast. I had the exact same problem with a Gateway laptop 3 years ago. It overheated and and kept crashing and then died. I brought it to a very good repair place (I 've been to for other problems) and they told me to throw it away, the CPU had melted and it was not...

Hong Kong - anyone currently in HK?

I've often wondered if it would make sense to try and start an options fund in Asia with Hong Kong or Singapore being obvious locations (lots of English speakers, strong legal system and good technology infrastructure etc.) The idea of Asia is that there are so many new fortunes being created...

    thinkorswim newsletter

For example A while ago I emailed a routine question via their general help email address. I got an answer from Tom Sosnoff (co-founder of the firm) directly. Superior technology, frequently improved and expanded. Multiple products to trade. Above all, very focussed on customer education...

Writing naked calls in a down market

this point that most options retire worthless is brought up so often and exposes the naivite of inexperienced options traders options have non-linear payoffs and you can have a strategy with for rexample, a 90% succuss rate collecting premium that nonetheless makes no money. e.g selling deep...

The next bank to blow up...

define failure countryide and citi both already "failed" in that they had a behind the scenes emergency capital infusion. Without which they were going down like a high priced hooker. WM looks vulnerable to me too

    Enough already! It's not random

"This is an asanine argument to have and keep having and a real waste of time. Who gives a shit if it is random or not. All that matters is if you can make money. The rest is bullshit and why does convincing some else to think like you matter. I guess if you are not making money then ACADEMIC...

    Enough already! It's not random

kut2k2 I suggest you google "GARCH" and "Engle" He won a Nobel prize for devising models that find non-linear structure in time series. Everyone knows that volatility of the S&P 500 has structure. But you aren't going to find it by spotting some chart pattern by looking at it.

    Enough already! It's not random

neither the academics nor the smart money consider a time series of the S&P 500 "random" in the sense you are using it and in fact thats not the terminology they use anymore (for good reason, they've progressed since the 70's) the closest definition to "random" as IID: independently and...

    Zacks Backtesting Yields Over %50

Well, not exactly. They are not selling a system they are selling a data filtering database as is Reuters. Except, Reuters clients are hedge funds and other institutional clients not retail. I'll agree that the quality of Zack's is way lower than its institutional counterparts but they are...

    Japanese style Deflation?

The OP's main thesis/question I think is solid I'm reading more and more about America's coming "lost decade" For the veteran traders here, do you remember circa 1999 when several commentators did a side by side graph of the US equity market price action next to Japan's from a decade...

    Zacks Backtesting Yields Over %50

I use the screener knowing full well that it has survivorship bias and I've always suspected that it had other data problems too so I'm not surprised by the finding that it includes earnings surprises that were not yet reported. That's pretty damning. That's "look ahead bias". Does anybody...

Hey Surf No dispute on Sosnoff, his rep speaks for itself (including the one during '87 where he reportedly backed up the truck on S&P's when the whole world was a seller). I've listened to him many many times both live and on his Weds TOS live chats. He talks very quickly and...

    International Trading

If you are doing this in small size you'll be dealing with the retail side of the brokerages/banks and they require proof off domestic residence in most countries. This is a local utility bill and lease/mortgage. Once you get past that hurdle consider the following. Most European countries...

    New York Traders Expo

Right before lunch, Sosnoff traded live and put on about 40 new positions, lots of 10 lot and more options, spot currency and futures. He was up as I recall over $1,000 net by the time lunch came around not that he was not trading for a daily positive P/L. These were mostly March expiration...
