    Individual stock symbols data wanted

Thanks bob111 and opmtrader and everyone else. Yes hquote.com does the trick. I can dowload large numbers of symbols all at once to ascii files, then import them into excel. You guys were very helpful!

    Individual stock symbols data wanted

I'm a Tradestation user (and I know Yahoo and others also provide the data). But they don't store it on your hard drive, you have to download it. I have not been able to pull 3 years back of daily data on a large number of symbols all at the same time. Sure I could spend the hours pulling...

    Individual stock symbols data wanted

I too can access historic data on as many stocks as I want going back as far as I want. But, I need to grab all the stocks I need ie about 3000x600(days)*5(data points per day - OHLC and Volume) = a ton of data at the same time. Tradestation, Yahoo and others don't let you do this. For...

    Individual stock symbols data wanted

I know what they cost on sites like www.tickdata.com and yes they are very expensive. I am enquiring into a way to buy them perhaps from a private individual who may have the legal right to sell them. At a cheaper price. This is a bit of a long shot I know, but its worth a try.

    Individual stock symbols data wanted

anybody have NYSE, Nasdaq, Amex end of day stock symbols Open High Low and Closing prices for sale going back to say Jan 1 2002? I'm looking for, at a minimum the stocks that trade > 100,000 shares per day (maybe 3000 or so symbols). I also need the trading volume on each symbol. (I don't...

    scanning and filtering software

sorry about that, I hit send before listing the cons: They are: limits on the total number of symbols you can screen for at one time and learning curve on their proprietary code (Easy Language) also costly if you are not a brokerage customer. because of the symbol limitation, I'm looking...

    Briefing.com -Worth the Fees

they are especially good with analyst ratings changes, earnings warnings, earnings announcements, splits etc. They have an archive of all of the above which is exportable to MS Excel so you can back-test the value of this stuff I find it absolutely invaluable.

Is data mining for trading patterns impossible?

I think so too! p.s. can I recommend a couple of books that address these imponderables? 1. "Market Models" by Carol Alexander (tough read) 2. "Fooled by Randomness" by Nassim Taleb (easy read) These texts will explain to you that no matter how much you back-test, your results will be...

    Short Selling

for Nasdaq only (my experience is all listed) can you offer a stock short below the current best bid on Arca? I understood that the "bid uptick" rule applied. But the info in this thread contradicts this. Anyone?

    Trading System Analysis

Almost everybody does, which is why a tiny minority pursue trading systems with the opposite payoff pattern, i.e. very high % of small losing trades with infrequent but very large payoffs. See the current thread "Taleb's concept of making an (infrequent) killing with options" - the points...

    Trading System Analysis

If your system involves shorting NYSE stocks, then you should consider no fills/bad fills. I tried to trade a certain kind of negative news method that looks great on paper, but with the demise of bullets, I only get short a fraction of the times that I attempt to. The only way to test...

Taleb's concept of making an (infrequent) killing with options

I'ts been pointed out here that its mostly his money that he is managing i.e. essentially a private investor rather than manager of OPM. If true then this is a great edge. Those who manage OPM, i.e the overwhelming majority of investor/trader capital including hedgies, could not pursue a...

Taleb's concept of making an (infrequent) killing with options

Anyone know what the performance of this hedge fund has been? Has anyone here backtested Talebs method or any variation of it?

Illegal Short Sale Debacle - HELP!!

I heard lots of confusion about the short sale rule here. I thought I knew the rule but this thread has given me second thoughts. Maybe some of the really knowledgeable people that contributed here might just sum it up giving examples. The SEC spells out the rules but does not really...

    Currently Profitable Traders

May as well do this here. I replied to the newbie: okay - so you must become consistent, then scale up your trading size incrementally. Start with 100 share trades, with many trades per day and when you are in the green say 3 out of 5 days, go to 200 shares, then 300 etc... The curve...
